Here's an update for the game that includes features from the full game that I am still developing. This update aims to improve the experience for controller users and make the game more immersive by fixing many bugs and issues that were previously present.
I'm late with this update, but here it is. As a solo dev, it's tough to meet deadlines. This update is important because it also brings the brand new trailer for the game, showcasing the first official footage of the full game. For those concerned: the game will not be sci-fi oriented as the demo's ending might suggest, but it will be 80% horror and 20% virtual.
This update brings a variety of quality-of-life improvements and new features:
NEW FEATURES :
New items to pick up and discover
Flashlight rework: To make it more dynamic, the flashlight now moves independently of the camera (doesn't work on controllers). It also has a flickering effect, and its intensity adjusts when the player performs quick rotations.
Skip system: It is now possible to quickly skip cutscenes and dialogues in the game.
- New dialogue boxThe interface for the dialogue box has been improved, making it easier for players to interact with.
- Event changesSome in-game events have been removed, while new ones have been added.
- 3D model updatesCertain 3D models have been replaced or reworked.
UI improvements: Some UI elements have been replaced with better designs, improving the visibility of game objectives.
- Translation system removalThe translation system has been removed from the demo but will be reintroduced in the full game.
New main menu: Warning messages will now be displayed.
- New trailerA new trailer will play after the demo, showcasing scenes from what the final version of MDNE404 will look like.
Revamped tunnel: The tunnel leading back to the real world after death has been completely redesigned.
- Visual effectsNew visual effects have been added to make the backup generator more visible.
BALANCING :
Combat adjustments: Improvements have been made to make combat easier on controllers.
- Humanoids nerfDamage reduced from 8.5 -> 6.
- Slayer power shiftRange reduced from 3 -> 2 / Increased strike speed and block consistency.
- Aim assistAim assist is now available when playing with a controller.
Steam Achievements : Steam achievements are now easier to get.
QUALITY OF LIFE (QOL) :
Several quality-of-life improvements have been made to enhance the overall experience:
Game audio will now pause when the game is paused.
The game’s sound system has been enhanced with a new feature from the full game: sounds will now be “muffled” when passing through walls.
After respawning from death, the Slayer will be automatically equipped for the player.
- Bug fixesAddressed various performance issues and fixed several bugs reported by the community.
Controller-specific prompts: The game will now display controls based on your type of controller (A, B, etc. for Xbox or similar, X, O, etc. for PlayStation, and so on).
- Controller support for menusMost menus are now almost fully controllable with a gamepad, but you will still need to use the mouse in some cases. This will be fully resolved in the final version of the game.
KNOWN ISSUES
You can't exit or control the settings menu with the controller for now.
Sometimes, when you exit the game to the main
