Loveland changes
I’ve been getting some messages recently asking about the current status of LOVELAND, and if it’ll ever see the light of day. It has been 4+ years since its inception after all. The short answer, is yes! Full-time development of LOVELAND has resumed, and is expected to be completed this year. For those of you who want the long answer? Well, let’s take a moment to quickly go over the history of LOVELAND, why there was a long pause in development, and what the future holds. LOVELAND initially started as an entry into the 64x64 Low Rez Jam on itch.io. That is where we came up with the idea for an immersive sim horror game with an X-Files flare. We knew we wanted a cryptid as the main antagonist, and we landed on the Loveland Frog. After the Low Rez jam ended, we rolled the project into the Haunted PS1 Summer of Screams Jam, and it did really well there. At that point, we decided we wanted to turn LOVELAND into a fully fledged game. We spent 2 years re-building the game from the ground up, and through many iterations, turned it into the version of LOVELAND you've all seen (and maybe played) today. Things were looking great. Until suddenly, they weren't. Essentially, we were funding the development of LOVELAND through other contracts that we had taken on through our company, DEVHOUR GAMES. Money was tight, but through those contracts, we were able to keep development on LOVELAND steady. Unfortunately, back in 2024, our largest client suddenly ended our most lucrative contract, and refused to pay out several invoices. We tried to use all the outlets available to us in order to get them to pay out, but these things take time, and money. Both of which we didn't have much of. So we made the difficult decision to pause development on LOVELAND, and take on additional contracts in order to get our finances back in check. It took two very long years of working on outside projects in order to get enough funds to make up for the money we lost, as well as enough to set aside to finish development on LOVELAND. We didn't really talk much about this when it was happening because we were angry. We were disappointed. We were so incredibly frustrated that we had to put LOVELAND on hold because some other company decided to not pay us for the hard work we had done for them. So that brings us to the future of LOVELAND. We have resumed full development on LOVELAND as of April 1st of this year. We were pretty close to launching it prior to the money issues we experienced, so we do not believe it will take entirely too long to finish up the remaining scenes and sequences. We even been working on an additional area that will be used in the Intro as well as some of the endings. Steam post image Steam post image Steam post image Steam post image
We're going to be much more active on social media, as well as the Steam Forums in an effort to rebuild the momentum we had before everything fell apart. If you want the most up to date announcements, we'd highly suggest joining our Discord, as I'm in there every day.
We apologize for the long wait, but LOVELAND is still on the way! Thank you all for being so patient.
