Little Library changes
Hi everyone,
In anticipation of next week's relaunch of Little Library and in the interest of full transparency, I wanted to share patch notes for everything that will be changing in the new version.
This update focuses on fixing major progression bugs, stabilizing core systems, improving UI/UX, and resolving multiple edge cases that could cause unreliable behavior across gameplay.

Daily Tasks and Library Progression
Shelving Tasks
Fixed shelving tasks continuing indefinitely after completion
Fixed shelving not always counting during end-of-day evaluation
Fixed silent failures when internal counters exceeded expected values
Completion now counts when tasks meet or exceed the requirement
Dusting Tasks
Fixed dusting appearing complete during the day but failing at closing
Updated completion checks to use meet or exceed logic
Improved counter behavior to prevent overcount issues
Task State Management
Fixed “one task at a time” lock blocking other actions
Added failsafe reset for TaskInProgress on library open
Improved cleanup between days to prevent carryover bugs
Library Opening & End-of-Day
Fixed unreliable library opening interaction
Reworked end-of-day evaluation to trigger consistently across all paths
Fixed cases where sleep/travel skipped evaluation entirely
Improved end-of-day summary stability
Basement Progression
Fixed basement triggers repeating or becoming stuck
Improved stability when transitioning in/out of basement sequences
Quest System Fixes
Flyer Quest
Fixed flyer posting not clearing properly
Ensured completion reliably triggers
Standardized all interaction paths
Vegetable Delivery Quests
Progress now carries across multiple transactions
Fixed mismatched variable tracking
Improved delivery/quest consistency
Quest Creation System
Prevented duplicate quests from email/computer interactions
Added safeguards against duplicate journal entries
Fixed repeated triggers spawning duplicate quests
Day Progression and Events
Day Count Logic
Fixed progression relying on exact day values
Events now trigger once the required day is reached
Added one-time trigger safeguards
Milestones & Festivals
Improved reliability of milestone events
Prevented permanent failure if timing was missed
Systems and Mechanics
Fishing
Fixed failed attempts consuming energy
Fixed incorrect catch messaging
Mystery Book Boxes
Rewards now pull from full intended pool
Fixed rarity/drop behavior
Removed unstable global event dependency
Fixed lingering background reward scans
Library Systems Improvements
Visitors
NPCs now browse based on preferences
Variable shelf paths and visit lengths
Visitors leave naturally after browsing/recommendations
Correct recommendations trigger shelf visits + exit
Recommendations
Now includes all owned books
NPCs only request available genres
Incorrect options drawn from full catalogue
Displays “Title by Author”
Added positive NPC feedback (heart reaction)
Farming Improvements
Watering is now automatic on interaction
Seed selection window dynamically resizes
Fixed animation bug causing player sprite to remain stuck after farming
Controls, Menus, and UI
Controls
Added WASD movement and E interaction
Improved controller support and mapping
Updated control instructions
Menus
Direct keyboard typing for name input
Fixed name input buzzer issue when typing
Added Quit to Desktop (title + ESC menu)
Added fullscreen toggle
Increased ESC menu size
Catalog & Navigation
Centered catalog vertically
Improved directional navigation
Fixed “Take Me Home” behavior
Interface
Fixed UI styling plugin respecting fonts/colors
Restored reputation display to stars
Removed click-to-move
Centered Credits screen
Fixed Credits screen not closing via mouse
Fixed HUD overlapping issue (now fades when player walks behind it)
Romance menu fully redesigned with improved layout, paging, and mouse support
World and Interaction Fixes
Map Interaction
Fixed door interactions on early maps
Fixed matching behavior across related maps
Collision
Fixed player walking through interior walls across 37 maps
Added proper collision via region blocking
Interaction Fixes
Fixed duplicate “no seeds” messages on empty soil
Fixed repeated popup spam from sign interactions
Fixed shelves showing incorrect message when not holding books
Fixed character disappearing during shelf dusting
NPC Systems
NPC Placement
Fixed placement pause system not working
Reworked pause/resume handling
Ensured placement resets correctly on library open
Stability and Event Reliability

Fixed major indexing issue breaking event calls
Audited event usage across project
Internal Cleanup
Removed outdated labels and unused logic
Reduced risk of mismatched triggers

Fixed player sprite locking during animations due to improper state capture
Fixed interpreter timing issues causing duplicate triggers/messages
Fixed multiple UI interaction inconsistencies
