We've been playing KosmoSquad a lot since the v1.0 release, both individually and together with RemotePlay. There were a variety of things that weren't game-breaking but that we really felt like should go in the game to make it a continually-enjoyable experience.

So, one week after launching the game on Steam, we are shipping a large collection of improvements that enhance the game experience. Steam should automatically update your game client and the game will display the version number on the title screen.

Quality-of-Life (QoL) Improvements:

  • Powerup now displays a shrinking bar indicating duration.

  • Game now has onscreen keyboard entry for profile name (full controller support).

  • Left/right now moves between UI columns on the level select screen.

  • Unspent points now appear on the end game dialog.

  • Lives remaining are now announced when a player dies.

  • Minor update to button text to indicate that it will return players to upgrade screen.

  • Game now announces when a new high-score has been achieved.

  • Swapped position of current score and high score.

  • Unlocked new level now specifies which level has been unlocked.

  • Refresh rate dropdown now says "refresh/fps".

  • Players can now toggle full screen from the pause menu.

  • Added deadzone to settings with better default values.

  • Deadzone is distance-based, not axis-based.

  • When an enemy kills a player the enemy remains alive so it's clear how player died.

  • Skull warning icon is now bigger for balloon enemies

  • Early progression is a little faster.

  • Alt-tabbing mid game now pauses.

  • Improved clarity of unlock messages.

  • Music no longer plays when game is not in focus.

  • Game pauses when active controller is unplugged.

  • Pressing B backs out of settings menu.

  • Pressing B backs out of profile creation.

  • Pressing B backs out of combo and list boxes.

  • Pressing B returns to level in boss victory popup.

  • Pressing B returns to level select on loss popup.

  • Pressing B returns to game from pause menu.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed issue where unjoined controller could select UI.

  • Fixed case where level 4 could be cheesed by hanging out in corners.

  • Fixed issue where game losing focus when fading in could cause black screen.

  • Fixed "Unlocked Level 1" notification when starting a new game.

  • Fixed game not pausing when Steam overlay is opened.

  • Fixed alt-tabbing causing the game to think a controller disconnected.

  • Fixed controller affecting game when game is backgrounded.

  • Fixed disabled listbox items being selectable.

There is one known issue: if multiple players die simultaneously, using up the last lives, the game can end while also respawning a player. This does not break the game and may be fixed in a future version.

Thanks to everyone who has bought and played the game. If you like the game, please leave us a review!

Sincerely, Justin and Vic - creators of KosmoSquad
