Hello Community,

I’ve just released a new update.

Happy New Year! 🎉

I hope you had a great start to the new year.

To kick things off, this update includes various improvements, fixes, and adjustments across different parts of the game.

One-Time Information Message at Game Start

From now on, a short information message will be shown once when starting KeepUp Survival.

This message briefly explains what KeepUp Survival is about: an open sandbox survival game focused on freedom, building, and exploration, with no time pressure or directed objectives.

Since not every player reads the full Steam description, this short introduction helps set the right expectations from the start and prevents misunderstandings. Especially for sandbox games, a clear explanation like this can be very valuable.

Animal Spawn Behavior

I’ve made changes to the animal spawn system to reduce CPU usage.

Previously, each spawn point independently decided when to spawn animals as soon as the player was nearby. With many spawn points, this had a negative impact on performance.

To address this, I implemented a central spawn manager that monitors all spawn points and controls when animals are spawned. Spawning decisions are now handled by the manager instead of individual spawn points, resulting in improved performance.

Initial tests went very well. However, this change appears to slightly affect the helicopter’s flight behavior (frame drops). Further testing is required. If you experience similar issues, please let me know.

Power Building Options

I’ve updated the visual appearance of the splitter, combiner, and both switches.

You don’t need to change anything in your existing builds. However, if you care about visual details, you may want to reconnect the cables (for example on the splitter), as older cable connections may no longer align perfectly.

The large switch has also been improved: When you look at it, the control cabinet now opens, allowing you to toggle the switch directly to enable or disable power.

The small switch, which can be used as a light switch or for other purposes, has also received a new visual update.

Military Area Updated

I’ve made several adjustments to the military area, and it will be expanded further in future updates.

You can now enter the buildings.

Languages Updated

I’ve reworked all available languages and added missing translations to improve overall localization quality.

The game currently supports the following languages: German, English, Turkish, Swedish, Finnish, Dutch, Danish, Polish, Portuguese (Portugal), Russian, Simplified Chinese, Spanish (Spain), Italian, and French.

Key Bindings

Recently, there have been frequent misunderstandings regarding opening the map overview. To avoid further confusion, the M key has been removed from the key bindings.

The map overview can be accessed only via the Multi-Deck. During gameplay, you first need to find the required components to craft the Multi-Deck.

Once crafted, you can assign it to one of your slots and select it. This gives you access to the map overview as well as additional information, such as time and wind speed.

Linux / Proton (Steam Deck)

With today’s update, in addition to various improvements and fixes, I’d like to share a short note regarding the Steam Deck status.

According to the Steam Team testers, the game is generally playable on the Steam Deck (currently using Proton 8), however, it is officially supported on Windows only. Therefore, I can’t currently guarantee full compatibility or support on the Steam Deck.

When playing on the Steam Deck, the following limitations may occur:

  • Text may appear too small on the Steam Deck display

  • Mouse and keyboard prompts in places where controller icons would be more appropriate

  • Performance is playable, but currently requires lower graphics settings

These issues are known and will be addressed gradually where possible. The goal is to continue improving the Steam Deck experience in future updates, without making any firm guarantees at this time.

Feedback from players using the game on the Steam Deck is always welcome and greatly helps with prioritizing improvements.

General Fixes

Various smaller bugs have been fixed to improve the gameplay experience and stability.

If you have any questions or feedback, let me know! Thank you for your support and have fun with the game!
