KARDS - The WW2 Card Game changes
The KARDS summer expansion, Oceania Storm, is approaching fast, making landfall on June 11.
Today marks the beginning of spoiler season, with the first wave of card reveals from Oceania Storm. More intel is already inbound.
Oceania Storm introduces 88 new collectible cards, the new ANZAC minor nation, and an all-new keyword: Forecast. Cards with Forecast allow you to call in changing weather conditions, selecting from different weather patterns to influence the battlefield in your favor. Forecast appears on cards from the nations most deeply involved in the Pacific War: ANZAC, the US, and Japan.
Every nation receives new tools in this expansion, whether through entirely new mechanics or expanded strategic themes. Here’s your first look at what each nation brings to the front lines as spoiler season begins.
ANZAC
Australian and New Zealand forces fought across multiple theatres of WWII - from the deserts of North Africa to the jungles of the Pacific - earning a reputation for adaptability, resilience, and making the most of limited resources. In KARDS, ANZAC cards reward careful positioning, with cards that gain bonuses when played from the leftmost or rightmost position in hand or on the battlefield. Forecast, Veteran, and a touch of unpredictability also run through the nation’s arsenal.
6th BRIGADE NZ
Blitz. Deployment: Becomes Veteran if deployed from right-most in hand.
Veteran, Blitz. Deal 1 damage to a random enemy when a friendly unit becomes Veteran.
The 6th Infantry Brigade served as part of the 2nd New Zealand Division and fought across some of the war’s toughest campaigns. After training in Egypt, the brigade defended the Aliakmon Line in Greece and helped cover the Allied evacuation in April 1941. It later fought at Sidi Rezegh and El Alamein before advancing through Libya and Tunisia. In 1943, the brigade crossed into Italy, fighting around Cassino and continuing north through the river crossings of northern Italy toward Trieste. Few formations saw action across so many theatres of war.
RAAF HURRICANE TROP
Deployment: Gets +1+1 and Blitz if deployed from right-most in hand.
The Hawker Hurricane is most closely associated with the Battle of Britain, but Australian squadrons operated the fighter extensively in the Middle East during 1941 and 1942. No. 3, No. 450, and No. 451 Squadrons RAAF flew Hurricanes in both air combat and ground attack roles throughout the desert campaign. No. 451 Squadron also carried out reconnaissance flights during the Siege of Tobruk. Only one Hurricane ever served on Australian soil - a tropicalized Mk I loaned by Britain for testing and demonstration work, including early anti-G suit trials at Laverton in 1942.
THE ANZAC SPIRIT
Deal 2 damage to all enemies. Draw 2 cards. Gain 2 extra kredit slots.
The “Anzac Spirit” traces its origins to the Gallipoli campaign of 1915, where Australian and New Zealand troops landed under heavy fire and fought under brutal conditions. The term came to represent courage, endurance, and mateship - the belief that ordinary soldiers would stand by one another no matter the circumstances. Australian official historian Charles Bean helped shape the idea into a lasting national legacy, and it remained a defining bond between Australia and New Zealand throughout WWII.
Britain
Britain's most significant contribution to the Pacific war took place in the jungles and hills of Burma and northeast India, where the Fourteenth Army, known as the "Forgotten Army", spent years battling the Japanese forces under punishing conditions. Dense jungle, monsoon rains, and disease made the Burma theater as much a fight against the environment as against the enemy. From the disasters of 1942 through the decisive victories at Kohima and Imphal and the final drive to Rangoon in 1945, British and Commonwealth forces adapted and rebuilt their doctrine from the ground up. In Oceania Storm, Britain focuses on cards that didn't start in your deck, making use of neutral tools while also bringing heavy bombers into the fight.
No. 46 COMMANDO
Deployment: Add a BLAST and a PLAN to your hand.
No. 46 Royal Marine Commando was formed in August 1943 during the conversion of the Royal Marines Division into commando formations. After intensive training at Achnacarry in the Scottish Highlands - including forced marches, demolitions, amphibious landings, and small-boat operations - the unit landed in Normandy on D-Day. Fighting alongside the British 6th Airborne Division, it secured positions along the Orne bridgehead and entered Douvres-la-Délivrande two days later. Heavy casualties forced the unit back to Britain for refitting before it returned for the advance into Germany in 1945, conducting river-crossing assaults before later being disbanded in 1946.
46th INDIAN BRIGADE
Deployment: Draw a card from your deck that did not start there. Get +1+1 and Blitz if you do.
The 46th Indian Infantry Brigade was formed at Ahmednagar in 1941 as part of the 17th Indian Infantry Division, with units including the 3rd/7th Gurkha Rifles and 5th/17th Dogra Regiment. During the Japanese invasion of Burma in 1942, the brigade became caught in the chaotic retreat toward the Sittang River. The destruction of the Sittang Bridge turned the withdrawal into disaster, trapping thousands of Allied troops east of the river. The 46th Brigade suffered devastating losses, fragmented into isolated groups, and was officially disbanded only months after its formation.
Germany
Germany played no significant role in the Pacific theater, but German forces fought in some of the harshest environments of the war - from the frozen Eastern Front to the mountains of Italy and the deserts of North Africa. In Oceania Storm, Germany emphasizes effects triggered by operating your units, with Veteran serving as a key supporting mechanic.
BLUE LEGION
After you operate a unit, give it +1+1 for each kredit spent to operate it.
After Spain withdrew most of the Blue Division from the Eastern Front in 1943, roughly 2,000 volunteers remained behind as the Spanish Volunteer Legion, commonly known as the Blue Legion. As Franco sought closer relations with the Allies, maintaining a large Spanish formation in German service became politically difficult, but many volunteers chose to stay. The Legion continued fighting on the Eastern Front through the Leningrad-Novgorod offensive until April 1944. Even after the unit was formally dissolved, some Spaniards refused repatriation and continued serving in German formations until the final days of the war.
102. PANZERGRENADIER
Shock. Becomes Veteran after it operates.
Veteran, Shock.
The 102nd Grenadier Regiment was part of Germany's 24th Infantry Division - a formation that spent much of WWII being ground down and rebuilt on the Eastern Front. After fighting in Poland and France, the division joined Army Group South for the invasion of the Soviet Union, taking heavy losses at Uman and Kiev before moving to Crimea. During the 1942 assault on Sevastopol, it captured key positions including Fort Stalin, but at the cost of roughly 30 percent of its strength. Sent north to the Leningrad sector, it fought with the Volkhov Front and was still in action retreating west through Soviet offensives in 1944, ending the war trapped in the Courland Pocket.
Soviet Union
The Soviet Union fought the largest land war in history on the Eastern Front, but Soviet forces also entered the Pacific conflict during the final weeks of WWII. In Oceania Storm, the Soviet Union focuses on token generation, supported by Blasts, Veteran synergies, and a streak of unpredictability.
FORM BATTLE LINE
Choose One - Add three LIGHT INFANTRY to your support line with Blitz OR +1+1.
By 1943, the Red Army had transformed its defensive doctrine through hard-earned experience. Soviet defensive systems were built in depth, with trenches, machine-gun nests, mortars, anti-tank strongpoints, and reserve formations layered behind the front line. Minefields and pre-registered artillery zones slowed enemy advances, while command structures were designed to function even under constant pressure. What emerged from the disasters of 1941 and 1942 became one of the most formidable defensive systems of the war.
866th RIFLES
Destruction: Add two BLASTS to your hand.
The 866th Rifle Regiment belonged to the 287th Rifle Division, formed in 1941 and committed to combat before completing its preparation. Sent to the Bryansk Front, the division was caught in the massive encirclement battles of October 1941 and effectively destroyed in the Bryansk Pocket. Survivors escaped eastward and later rebuilt the division at Lipetsk under the same regimental designations. Reconstituted, the division fought through the remainder of the war and eventually participated in the Berlin Offensive of 1945.
US
America was the largest overall Allied military force in the Pacific, with US forces fighting across vast island chains from Guadalcanal to Okinawa under some of the harshest conditions of WWII. In Oceania Storm, the US doubles down on infantry tactics, supported by Forecast, unpredictability, and a smaller Veteran theme.
RUFFIANS
Blitz. Deployment: Gets +1+1 for each other infantry you control.
“Ruffians” became the nickname of the 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment after Colonel Edson Raff assumed command in Normandy. The regiment first entered combat on D-Day during Mission Boston, dropping into Normandy to secure crossings over the Merderet River. Poor weather, anti-aircraft fire, and navigational confusion scattered the regiment across flooded fields and hedgerows, forcing paratroopers to fight in isolated groups. After suffering heavy casualties in Normandy, the regiment later fought in the Battle of the Bulge and participated in Operation Varsity, the airborne crossing of the Rhine in March 1945.
NAVAL BATTLE
Choose One - Destroy all units with an odd cost OR even cost.
The Battle of Sunda Strait, fought during the night of 28 February to 1 March 1942, was one of the most devastating Allied naval defeats of the Pacific War. USS Houston and HMAS Perth, already damaged after the Battle of the Java Sea, attempted to pass through Sunda Strait before unexpectedly encountering a Japanese invasion convoy near Bantam Bay. Outnumbered and surrounded, both cruisers fought through the night before being sunk after midnight. Several Japanese vessels were also lost, including some struck by friendly torpedoes. Houston’s captain, Albert H. Rooks, was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.
Japan
Japan fought across the vast Pacific theater, from Southeast Asia to the islands of Micronesia, developing distinctive tactics as the war increasingly turned against it. In Oceania Storm, Japan focuses on self-kredit denial, reflecting the sacrifice-driven nature of the Special Attack doctrine, with Forecast, air power, and intel serving as supporting themes.
SHINYO MOTORBOATS
Lose a kredit slot. Deal damage to target unit equal to kredit slots lost this battle plus 1.
As Allied forces closed in on the Japanese home islands, Japan increasingly relied on unconventional weapons, including the Shinyo explosive motorboat. Introduced in 1944, the one-man craft carried approximately 270 kilograms of explosives in its bow and was designed to ram enemy ships at high speed. More than 6,000 Shinyo boats were built, seeing action during the Philippines campaign and around Okinawa. Hundreds more were held in reserve for the anticipated Allied invasion of Japan that never came.
YOKOSUKA E14Y
Blitz, Intel 2. Deployment: Forecast. Draw a card if you have 0 kredits.
The Yokosuka E14Y, known to the Allies as “Glen,” was a compact reconnaissance seaplane carried aboard Japanese submarines. Launched by catapult and recovered after landing on water, the aircraft gave Japanese submarines a unique long-range scouting capability. In 1942, E14Ys conducted reconnaissance flights over Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, and Wellington. One such mission preceded the Japanese midget submarine attack on Sydney Harbour. The aircraft is best remembered for the Lookout Air Raid, when an E14Y launched from submarine I-25 dropped incendiary bombs over Oregon - the only aerial bombing attack carried out against the US mainland by an enemy aircraft launched from a submarine during WWII.
Weather
Weather cards play a major role in Oceania Storm, reflecting the unpredictable and often unforgiving conditions of the Pacific theater.
Whenever you play a card with Forecast, you’ll choose between three possible weather conditions: clear Blue Skies and Sunny weather, Mist bringing Rain, or a Gale signaling an incoming Storm.
Weather cards are neutral cards and do not belong to any nation. They can only enter play through the Forecast keyword, which appears on ANZAC, US, and Japanese cards in Oceania Storm.
Once you select your Forecast of choice, you’ll be presented with three different options for the weather type selected. Note that even within these three options, there are variations - so you’ll never know exactly what your desired weather will bring.
Sunny
When the weather turns Sunny, aggression is on the forecast. You'll choose from HEATWAVE, JUNGLE FEVER, or SCORCHING SUN, each offering a different way to push your units forward - through attack buffs, Blitz, or across-the-board unit upgrades. Each of the options shown below is just one of three possible variations per weather type, meaning you'll be shown one at random from each category to make up your three choices.
HEATWAVE: All units get +2 attack until end of turn. Air units get +3 instead.
JUNGLE FEVER: Units you deploy or add this turn get Blitz.
SCORCHING SUN: Give all your units +3+3.
Rain
When Rain rolls in, the tempo shifts. Rain cards lean toward control - distributing defense to friendly units, suppressing enemy attacks, or reshaping the board in your favor. You'll choose between DELUGE, TORRENTIAL RAIN, or MONSOON RAIN. As with Sunny weather, each category contains three possible variations.
DELUGE: Distribute 6 defense between random friendly targets.
TORRENTIAL RAIN: Pin all enemy units.
MONSOON RAIN: Randomly destroy and discard until both sides have equal units and equal cards in hand.
Storm
Storm is where the weather turns truly destructive. Expect direct damage to enemy units, forced retreats, and cards that can shuffle hands back into decks and redraw - tools for breaking a stalemate or swinging a battle that's slipping away. We're holding back the full details for a dedicated weather briefing later in spoiler season. Keep your eyes on the horizon.
Blast
Blast is a new neutral spawn-only card built for quick battlefield impact: a 0-kredit card that deals 1 damage to a unit.
As a neutral card, Blast can be generated by multiple nations. In Oceania Storm, it appears on British and Soviet cards.
