addedVehicle OverviewSEIBU RAILWAY 40000 Series is a commuter train that debuted in 2017. It operates through-service with Tokyo Metro Yurakuchō Line and Fukutoshin Line, and also runs to Tokyu Tōyoko Line and Minatomirai Line. Additionally, it is compatible with reserved-seat trains such as the “S-TRAIN” and the “Haijima Liner.” Designed with the concept of a “people-friendly train that moves forward with everyone,” the interior features a “Partner Zone” and luggage spaces designed with wheelchair and stroller users, as well as passengers carrying large luggage, in mind. While primarily equipped with bench seating, some cars feature seats that can be used in both bench and cross configurations, making them suitable for a wide range of uses, from commuting to leisure travel. Furthermore, in addition to automated announcements and destination displays, depending on the train set, it is equipped with amenities such as onboard Wi-Fi and power outlets. It is actively in service on various lines, primarily Ikebukuro Line system.

About the Route

Seibu Ikebukuro Line is a major route operated by SEIBU RAILWAY, connecting Ikebukuro Station in Toshima Ward, Tokyo, to Agano Station in Hannō City, Saitama Prefecture, over a distance of 57.8 km.

The scenery along the line shifts from urban areas to the suburbs and then to mountainous regions. While serving as a vital route for commuters and students, it also handles tourism and leisure travel. Some sections are elevated and feature four tracks, enabling smooth intercity transportation. Furthermore, west of Tokorozawa, lush green scenery unfolds, dotted with numerous leisure spots.

Via Nerima Station, the line operates through-service with Tokyo Metro Fukutoshin Line and Yurakuchō Lines, Tokyu Tōyoko Line, and Minatomirai Line, allowing direct access to Shibuya and Yokohama without transfers. The limited express “Laview” and the reserved-seat “S-TRAIN” also operate, providing a comfortable means of transportation for both commuting and sightseeing.

The line features a diverse timetable and a wide variety of train types, including express and commuter services. Another attraction is the opportunity to see a wide variety of rolling stock thanks to the through-service operations.

With its diverse appeal connecting the city center and the suburbs, nature and the city, and daily life and tourism,Seibu Ikebukuro Line supports the lives of many people while also serving as a gateway to discovering the charms of the area along its route.
