Devlog #7
Into the Ruins
Hey @everyone ! This week was all about one thing: giving you reasons to leave the safety of your village and head out into the unknown. Iskarn now has a living world, full of places to explore, loot, and people to save. A world worth exploring The wilds around your colony are now scattered with abandoned places: hunter's camps, burned inns, ruined mills, flooded mines, fallen citadels and plenty more. They appear naturally as you push outward, and the further you travel from home, the more dangerous (and rewarding) they get. Steam post image 30 unique sites, tiers 1 to 10 We hand-built 30 distinct locations spread across 10 danger tiers. A tier 1 site might be a humble camp a short walk from your gates. A tier 10 site is a sunken cathedral or a fallen citadel, crawling with the kind of things you really don't want to meet unprepared. Distance is the difficulty dial: the map itself tells you how brave you're feeling. Steam post image Loot chests worth the risk Every site is guarded, and clearing it out is how you get paid. Hidden inside are loot chests, and what's in them scales with the tier: a T1 camp might give you basic tools and raw materials, while a T10 stronghold can be packed with powerful weapons, armor and rare resources. The catch: each chest can only be looted once, so picking your targets matters. Whatever you grab goes straight to your hero or back to the colony stores. Steam post image Save the survivors You're not the only one out there. Some ruins still shelter refugees and survivors, ordinary people clinging on in dangerous places. Reach them and you can bring them home: they make the journey back with you and join your colony as full citizens, with their own name and skills. Every rescue is one more person pulled out of the dark, and another pair of hands for the village. Steam post image The Cairns Some places aren't like the others. Scattered among the ruins stand ancient weathered stones we call Cairns: silent, and clearly important. They're grand objectives tied to the slow creeping night, and a big piece of the lore we're about to start revealing. More on that very soon. That's it for devlog #7! Pack a weapon, the world is bigger than your walls now.
