V1.0.3 Invaders Evolutions - Released
Major Update: Tutorials, Human Research & Language Expansion
Hello everyone,
A new update is now available for Invaders Evolutions. This release focuses on making the game easier to learn, expanding the human upgrade path, adding new language support, and smoothing out several gameplay and UI issues reported during testing.
The biggest additions are the new tutorial system and the expanded human skills flow. These changes are designed to make the game clearer for new players while giving longer runs more strategic structure.
Highlights
Added a new tutorial system
Replaced the old How To Play section with Tutorials
Expanded human skills and research progression
Added seeker missile research, upgrades, and optional auto-fire
Added stronger barrier progression through the upgrade system
Added in-game support for Russian, Ukrainian, Turkish, Brazilian Portuguese, and Polish
Difficulty now affects bomb and spaceship speed
Improved several sound effects to reduce audio clutter
Improved turret shield protection after being hit
Fixed several UI, localization, and end-of-level issues
New Tutorial System
The old How To Play section has been replaced with a new tutorial system.
Tutorials now appear in context as key mechanics are introduced, helping explain controls, spaceships, upgrades, research, shields, barriers, seeker missiles, alien abilities, and other important gameplay systems as they become relevant.
A Tutorials screen is also available so players can review tutorial content again when needed. Tutorial progress is remembered, completed tutorials can be replayed manually, and progress can be reset from Options.
Human Research and Skill Expansion
Human skills have been reworked so they are no longer simply awarded at fixed points.
At key points in a run, players now choose which human technology to research next. Once that research completes, the chosen skill becomes available and can then be strengthened through the upgrade system.
This gives the human side of the arms race more shape and allows players to prioritize the tools that best fit their play style. Shields, barriers, and seeker missiles now form a clearer progression path and are supported by the upgrade screen once unlocked.
Seeker missiles are now a dedicated researched technology. Once unlocked, they can be fired at roaming spaceships, improved through upgrades, and optionally set to auto-fire from Options.
Barriers have also been expanded beyond a simple unlock. Once researched, barrier sections gain stronger protection and can be improved further through the upgrade system.
New Language Support
In-game language support has been added for five additional languages:
Russian
Ukrainian
Turkish
Brazilian Portuguese
Polish
This includes new translated game text, menu text, tutorial text, and other player-facing UI content.
Gameplay Adjustments
Difficulty selection now affects bomb and spaceship speed. Bombs and spaceships are 20% slower on Learner, unchanged on Normal, and 20% faster on Valhalla.
Speed upgrades are calculated before the difficulty percentage is applied.
Alien 'passage of time' upgrade points now accrue more quickly to rebalance the additional upgrade suppression provided by the seeker missile.
Difficulty now affects end-of-level bonus scoring, with Learner using a 0.1 multiplier, Normal using 1.0, and Valhalla using 2.0.
Turret shields now receive a brief 0.5 second invulnerability period after being hit, preventing clustered bombs from stripping several shield levels at once.
Alien explosion sound effects have been shortened and given volume tapering to reduce sound flooding when multiple aliens are destroyed quickly.
Alien movement sounds have been adjusted so rapid alien movement no longer overwhelms the overall sound mix.
Performance Improvements
Added pooling for player bullets and alien bombs to reduce runtime object creation during busy levels. This should help smooth performance on lower spec devices during heavy firing, carpet bombing, and other high-action moments.
UI and Localization Improvements
Replaced the How To Play button and related flow with the new Tutorials system.
Fixed English-only strings in high score displays so high score headings now localize correctly.
Updated translation wording in several areas to improve screen fit, especially on the player upgrade screen.
Fixed translation file formatting issues where unquoted lines containing commas could place text into incorrect language columns.
Addressed several minor translation issues.
Made minor UI spacing improvements on secondary screens.
Bug Fixes
Fixed an issue where the player turret could still be destroyed by residual bombs while the level summary screen was visible.
Fixed a short music blip that could occur at game start.
Fixed an issue where the mouse was unavailable on the end-of-level statistics screen.
Removed an undesirable delay after pressing Continue on the end-of-level statistics screen.
Upcoming Roadmap
1.0.4:
Introduce special 'event' scoreboards that allow users to participate in pre-planned events. Will include modification of score recording to be after each level rather than end of game for special events to allow progress viewing via scoreboards live during events.
Translation Refinement - looking to correct all translations to be common language terms in non-english languages where needed
Thank you for playing, and thank you to everyone who has tested, reported issues, and helped shape this update.
