It has been a while since the last update, and we are really happy to finally share this one with you. Thanks for sticking around, playing, reporting issues, and sharing your thoughts with us. This update ended up being a pretty packed one, with new content, quality of life improvements, balance changes, and a handful of fixes that should make the game feel smoother overall. 🃏
This update puts a big focus on the Warrior, adds a fresh set of cards, introduces a new random event, improves clarity during events, and makes progression feel more rewarding with a higher level cap and more skill points to earn. Let’s get into it! ✒️
Warrior Skill Tree expansion
The Warrior Skill Tree has received a major boost with 19 new skills. This should give Warrior players more room to experiment, plan builds, and find new ways to push through runs.
To make planning easier, Skill Tree tooltips now include previews of cards and Quotes.
As you gain access to the full range of skills in the Skill Tree, the game finally reaches the difficulty level we originally planned, with all systems now connected through three layers of metaprogression - the Skill Tree, town development, and Bestiary progression - that make combat more manageable and help you progress through higher difficulty levels, so while the game may have felt too difficult before, that changes once the full Skill Tree becomes available.
At the end of the Skill Tree, you will find Golden Skills, powerful upgrades that break the core rules of the game and enable highly specific, personalized playstyles, allowing you to decide which parts of the game you want to gain more control over, whether that means reducing the Chronicle’s impact on your runs, handling enemies more easily through offensive skills, or shaping the experience in a way that best supports how you want to play.
It is also worth mentioning that you will find plenty of skills that let you shape your starting deck before you even begin a run.
18 new cards to discover
This update adds 16 new cards, plus 2 new universal cards. Some are focused on new synergies, some add fresh tactical options, and some are here to make your choices a little more interesting, or a little more painful, depending on the run.
New random event: Creepy Merchant
A new random event has entered the mix: Creepy Merchant.
As the name suggests, this probably is not the most comforting person to meet on your journey, but hey, sometimes the weirdest encounters are the most useful ones.
More progression, higher level cap
We’ve increased the level cap to 21 and updated skill point distribution. You can now earn 1 skill point per level up to level 21, for a total of 21 skill points.
Better clarity and quality of life
We have added adjustable animation speed, which should help players who want either a faster flow or a more relaxed pace.
Event effects are now clearer. The game better highlights important outcomes, such as revealed POIs, max HP increases, HP loss, and card upgrades.
Fixes based on your reports
A few annoying issues have been cleaned up, including the Book Gate sending players to the wrong location, overlapping healing sounds, and profile data problems where Difficulty Levels and the Skill Tree could be shared across profiles.
Thanks to everyone who reported these. Your feedback helped us track down several of the changes included in this update.
