Having moved from minor fixes to larger QoL changes with Patch 1.1 in April, we’re now revealing our favourite change yet with 1.2 - spider movement.
With help from a specialist (thank you, Lincoln Margison!) we’ve overhauled how the spiders move, turn and tackle things like corners, objects and ceilings. Overall, this has added to the immersion and horror by removing instances of legs and abdomens disappearing through walls/floors/ceilings, and we couldn’t be happier with the outcome. To celebrate Patch 1.2, the game is on sale from 18th June - 9th July at 30% of (through the Summer Sale).
Quality of Life
Inverse Kinematics rework - an overhaul of the old animation based spider movement. Spiders now move organically through locations with their legs properly connecting to floors, walls, ceilings and other objects, for added realism/terror
Full controller integration
More spiders - we added more spiders to certain locations….but we’re not telling where
New event - return to security room
New event - cryo lab
GeForce Now compatible
Searching webbed victims - added a new mechanic for players interacting with corpses in the search for collectibles. The living quarters may hold the answer (grab some toilet roll while you’re there, please)
Backtracking is now available throughout the game (and required, for collectible hunters)
Bug Fixes
Fixed an issue with OMEN Gaming Hub
Adjusted fog levels based on feedback
Fixed an issue with objects becoming gigantic in webs
Fixed an issue where gas would not visibly disperse
Fixed an issue where the generator power would not turn on the security cameras or security office PC, stopping players from reading a quest log
Fixed an issue where tarantula was not responding to thrown items landing in its web
Removed the ability to exit Atherton Labs and roll credits without dispersing the neurotoxin...shame on anyone who did this. You doomed the world to a future of spider overlords.
A wide range of performance and visual improvements to the game on Steamdeck (we are currently chasing Verified status)

Overhauling Spider Movement: Before and After
Enjoy some in-engine snaps of the journey to improve how our spiders walk, climb and chase you down. If you're interested to learn more, we may detail this later on but for now, here's a quick summary of some of the improvements;
Scale cycle speed based on speed of rotation - makes legs move faster when spider does sharp turns, making the movement more natural and less prone to colliding with the body or other legs
Leg targeting continuously updates now, meaning movement is up to date and based on velocity and not basic animation
Changed how the body angles and orients itself to the ground, improving rotation and leg placement
Adjusted movement speed values to increase the overall smoothness
Adjusted the length at which legs stretch and overextend when moving over speed, reducing instances of twisting
Here's BTS shot of what our huntsman blueprint looks like, in-engine
