Huaxia: Warring States changes
Before we dive in, let’s take a look at the development progress of our grand Kyushu open‑world map, which we have been working hard on.
This was the state shown recently:
This is current state
(Areas covered in white snow are village and stronghold locations not yet placed.)
As you can see, many fine details are still unfinished, yet the map has completed the base terrain texturing, alongside placement of trees, mountains and water bodies.
Veteran players who have spent long adventuring across Yuzhou, almost earning themselves the title of clan elder, will notice that the new Kyushu map fixes numerous long‑standing flaws present in the old Yuzhou iteration.
Restrictive road layouts: narrow, winding paths forcing massive detours even for nearby destinations.
Densely interleaved mountains and water that blocked all unit movement.
Enemy engagements on roads would completely block passage for all other units.
None of these issues will persist on the new world map!
Positional spacing and strategic distribution between strongholds have also been reworked for better balance.
Units may traverse mountains and water directly, though movement speed will be reduced accordingly.
For reference, the new map is 9 times larger than the original. The number of armies, strongholds and other entities will also increase substantially, presenting a considerable technical challenge for our team. (In truth the raw map size is over 10‑fold; some non‑playable zones such as the Southeast Sea and Loess Plateau are included within map boundaries, bringing the actual playable area to exactly 9 times the size of old Yuzhou.)
Overworld map loading logic and AI for field armies are undergoing major overhauls. Rest assured: we have learned hard‑won lessons. Performance optimisation and bug‑fixing remain our top priorities, and we will not ship half‑baked, unfinished content in a rush.
The full 9 provinces and 7 states will be released around OCT.

Next, I would like to share our new general specialisation system.
Recruiting diverse heroes and generals to build your clan and retinue roster has always been one of our core gameplay pillars.
Based on player feedback together with our internal review, we have identified key shortcomings within the Yuzhou‑era retinue system:
No clear distinction between generic common characters and renowned historical figures.
Apart from the player protagonist, most characters lack distinct defining traits; all feel largely interchangeable.
No way to impart philosophies or skills, preventing custom build‑oriented roster construction.
No mechanics to expand your clan membership.
Rest assured, since I am bringing these points up, work to resolve them is already well underway!
Renowned historical heroes will gain one or more unique traits.
| Character | Trait | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Meng Ao | Meng Clan Family Precepts | Other Meng clan members within the same clan gain [Ancestral Blessing]: +3% to all attributes, +20% experience gain. |
| Han Fei | Treatise on the Five Vermin | All clan members consume 12% less salary, and gain +12% work efficiency. |
| Zhang Liang | Five‑Generation Minister of Han | The party gains +30% reputation with the State of Han; Han unit upgrade gold cost reduced by 20%. |
| Gai Nie | Tai‑A Pacifies Qin | While equipped with Tai‑A, gain +12% melee damage and +10% critical hit chance. |
| Wei Wuji | Three Thousand Retainers | When a party contains 3 or more retainers, the group gains +20% skill‑experience gain and +20% favour‑point gain. |
Additional traits and adjustments will continue to arrive in future patches. That said, unless issues are severely impactful, we will avoid heavy balance reworks at this stage. If you spot unreasonable values or mechanics during play, please feel free to send us feedback. We will iterate based on community input, while prioritising development of upcoming new content.
We will also implement an intelligence system, letting you browse detailed global information so you can easily review each notable figure’s abilities and decide which heroes to recruit.
Major Character‑Creator Update
Our existing character creator has notable limitations, with many generals and famous figures ending up with near‑identical facial appearances.
We have substantially upgraded the character‑creation system. You can now craft far more varied, lifelike faces. All historical heroes will receive highly distinctive original visages.
Greater customisation is available for eye corners, body proportions and fine facial features.
This feature is mostly complete, and is now undergoing testing and fine‑tuning.
Impart Philosophies & Skills
The ability to impart philosophies and skills will ship in our August revision. We have previously made all unlocked book recipes shared across your entire clan. Going forward, by combining character traits, philosophies, equipment and talents, you can specialise your retainers and clansmen toward specific unit proficiencies or official roles, enabling true role‑specialisation.
You will also be able to teach skills and philosophies to clan members, rename characters, grant rewards to clansmen and more.
Clan Marriages & Offspring
Naturally, mechanics for expanding your clan via political marriages and having children are also planned. Please understand that we will first refine Epic of Huaxia’s warfare gameplay before circling back to expand clan‑related systems.
Numerous smaller features are also scheduled for release within August. Thank you all for your patience. I will share further development updates next week. You are welcome to submit feedback via Steam or Discord at any time.
Lastly, here are today’s maintenance patch notes:
August 8 — 25th Game Update
Fixed an issue where captured prisoners recruited as retainers would not immediately join the party and could not be located.
Fixed incorrect display for homestead facility upper‑limit counts.
Fixed bugs where trait effects vanished, returned incorrect values or applied negative attribute penalties after loading a save file.
Fixed one‑time trait rewards and other effects triggering repeatedly upon save reload.
Optimised save‑file loading speed and UI responsiveness when viewing traits and buffs.
Fixed a bug where unequipping mounts would incorrectly erase movement‑speed bonuses gained from other sources.
When quest parties vanish or are routed for any reason, they will respawn after a short delay to prevent quest soft‑locks.
Corrected item descriptions for Hantian Guiyuan Pill and Feixing Chuanxi Pill.
Thank you for your support and patience.
