What is the Upgrade tree?

The upgrade tree allows players to upgrade certain amenities, zones and items in order to improve their hotel.

Differences between Early Access and 1.0

As some of you may recall, in Early Access the upgrade tree looked a little different to what we now have in place today. There were a few key differences such as how the player can earn upgrade points, and the tier system which was later introduced. These changes were ultimately made to be more supportive of the players' journey in order to achieve a 5-star hotel!

How do upgrades work?

In Hotel Architect, the upgrades are divided into tiers and can be individually researching using upgrade points. Each check-out completed grants one upgrade point for the corresponding tier.

To progress through the tiers, all upgrades in the orange column (to the left hand side) must be researched before it becomes possible to proceed to the next tier.

Points earned in advanced tiers, can be used to research upgrades from earlier tiers - but not the other way around.

How to earn upgrade points per tier

  • Tier 1 Upgrade Points: These can be earned when Backpackers check-out

  • Tier 2 Upgrade Points: These can be earned when Sporty guests check-out

  • Tier 3 Upgrade Points: This can be earned when Sunbather or Business guests check-out

  • Tier 4 Upgrade Points: This can be earned when Brats check-out

  • Tier 5 Upgrade Points: This can be earned when Upper Crusts check-out

One check-out is equal to one upgrade point.

What upgrades are required for progression?

In each tier, outside of tier 5, there are certain upgrades required for progression to the next tier. These include:

  • Tier 1: The gym upgrade

  • Tier 2: Therestaurant, and Special bedroom amenities upgrades

  • Tier 3: The bar, premium bedding and premium bathing upgrades

  • Tier 4: The Spa, Luxurious bedding and Luxurious bathing upgrades
