HOPE FALLS changes
Hello, and welcome to our first dev log!
When we started this project two years ago, we felt the action survival genre had begun to feel too... familiar. Many games were built on the same foundations. Some did a few things brilliantly but struggled elsewhere. Others lowered the barrier so much that the experience became forgettable.
Many survival games are either deeply hardcore, demanding dozens of hours just to feel competent, or they are lightweight experiences that do not leave much of a mark.
We are avid gamers. We have played most of them. And we kept asking ourselves: Is there space for something in between?
We dare to ask... why to survive?
What if we could create a survival experience where the entry cost is low, but the stakes are still high?
A survival game without endless grind
A game that respects your time
A game that can deliver something meaningful to someone who just got home from work and only has 40 minutes to play
While many survival games focus on how to survive, we wanted to focus on why to survive.
This Is Where Hope Falls Begins
An asteroid is coming
Time is limited
Survival is not just about food and bullets. It is about purpose
We are trying to occupy that middle ground, offering the best parts of survival design without asking players to spend hours just to reach the good parts. The tension is there. The systems are there, but they serve something bigger.
Why a Time Limit?
One of the problems with survival games is stagnation. When a player reaches a point where they’re overflowing with resources and have explored everything, there’s nothing left to do.
We believe there's a few way to combat this:
Featuring Procedural and randomized content: Every house/camp/item stat is unique. Loot, furniture, and secrets are randomized, making exploration fresh each run.
Faction Dynamics: Each run offers limited time, forcing players to choose which quests and factions to pursue. Some paths unlock Salvation/Closure options, alternate endings that reward multiple playthroughs.
- Restarting the cycleOne of the quiet truths about survival games is that they eventually reset via server wipes, new seasons, major upgrades, but what if the end was not external, but part of the story?
While resets are necessary, we believe it’s possible to integrate the end of the cycle directly into the narrative itself. Returnal does this brilliantly for example. We believe narrative matters in multiplayer games. Left 4 Dead is a great example of that.
In Hope Falls, the reset is not hidden, it is the asteroid. The end of the cycle is woven directly into the narrative.
And This Is Where You Come In
Help us shape Hope Falls!
We are not claiming we will reinvent the genre. We know we will learn along the way. But sure we can try!

F.A.Q
WHY IS THERE NO BASE-BUILDING SYSTEM?
First
because there's a lot of survival games already doing that.
Second
because it wouldn’t make sense in a dying world . Instead, players claim existing houses and can customize them through radio interactions. Spending Hope Points lets you request supplies or upgrades, which are delivered to your doorstep while you’re away, keeping progression meaningful without busywork.
HOW DO PLAYERS WIN IN HOPE FALLS?
The goal is to scatter John’s wife’s ashes, but reaching that point rarely plays out the same way twice (ie: if Cultists are blocking a path, you can befriend them, fight them or find a different route).
Each run offers limited time, forcing players to choose which quests and factions to pursue. Some paths unlock Salvation/Closure options, alternate endings that reward multiple playthroughs.
HOW DO YOU KEEP PLAYERS ENGAGED WITHOUT TRADITIONAL SURVIVAL GRIND?
By focusing on story-driven goals, exploration, dynamic world events and smart progression systems. You earn Hope Points through meaningful actions, not chores.
WHAT MAKES HOPE FALLS STAND OUT IN THE SURVIVAL GENRE?
It respects your time. Every mechanic, from procedural content to item stats, exists to create tension and emotion, not repetition.
