Generals!

It’s time for another Developer CORNER.

Just for the first couple of these, before we continue, I want to set some expectations and clear things up. By now you know we have two main types of Developer post:

Developer Diaries

  • Give you more detailed insight into content that’s more or less finished and is being polished

  • Start appearing closer to release

  • Give you a chance to ask our developers questions, and perhaps even let us know if there’s anything glaringly obvious we missed

  • (and may still have time to either fix quickly, or already start planning to include in a future Patch; being a Day-x, or a War Effort.)

Developer Corners, like this one, serve a different purpose. They:

  • Need your feedback, specific to the DC

  • Should be short and to the point

  • May or may not include any images

  • May generally give you some idea of something that might come in future content, but it’s not guaranteed

  • Are not usually planned far ahead. Instead, if at any point any developer has something they want to get feedback on, we’ll pick an upcoming weekly slot, probably Tuesday or Thursday

Regimental Support Companies

We’re doing a bit of redesign work on the division designer, and as a part of that we’re also looking into the opportunity to add regimental support companies to your divisions.

We’ve experimented with adding an additional row underneath the regiments, with room for the new companies. In practice, the existing support companies have been mostly split into what can be slotted as a regimental company or a divisional one. Generally, weapon companies and companies relying on specific equipment will be regimental, whereas the more generic support ones remain divisional.

This would allow a bit more flexibility when customising and building divisions, allowing you to specialise further into specific weapon companies/equipment, or making divisions that use a bit more of everything. Hopefully it gives additional consideration to division design.

Right now, equipment and stats also scale with the size of the regiment. So if you have less battalions inside a regiment, the associated support company will also be smaller. This is to have a check on power and prevent making small divisions overly strong, at the moment.

How would you use something like this? Is there any specific company you would like to see in the regimental line?
