Made it just in time!

When I started building Hearth Bound, it was just an homage to the World Of Warcraft housing system.

When I realized that I've written the code for this kind of game several times over, and it was coming so naturally and evolving at a crazy rate, I decided to go for it!

Now you have Hearth Bound!

The Race to House and Home Fest

I started playing around in Unreal Engine on February 27th, and 4 days later I created the steam page.

I saw the upcoming House and Home Fest and wondered - can I build the game and demo in time, the store page, screenshots and video trailer, and all the features I'd need to make a game worth appealing for a spot in the fest.

That gave me 3 weeks, allowing the 3-5 business days to approve everything, and even that was tight, since I might need to make changes and re-review.

So by week 2, around March 16th I submitted a build that included

  • Multiplayer

  • Room Expansion with Voxel Style gameplay

  • A Catalog of 500 items

  • Placement mode with drag drop, fine edit for move, rotate and scale

  • Grid Snapping and Grid Toggle

  • Placement collision system and toggle

  • Save System to reload your world

  • Settings for music volume, name tag toggle, resolution and window mode

  • Attached groups that you can move together at once

  • Asset destruction so you can undo actions

3 Days left

I have Friday, Saturday and Sunday to make any final tweaks to the demo.

Here is what I'm thinking, let me know if you have other high priority features you would like to see, I can roll them in during the demo week!

Must have

  • Keybinding settings

  • Tutorial

  • Collectathon stage 1 (Demo of design to 'unlock as you place')

  • Save Slots

  • Fix for removing the floor near the spawn point

  • Early Access / Demo One-Time pop-up introduction

Like to have

  • Map Select (Classic room, open space, Vertical space, random generation)

  • Roadmap in game and on Discord

  • Screenshot button

  • Hide UI Button

See you in Hearth Bound

I look forward to seeing the reception of the game!

I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to bring this game to life, and really excited to work on the roadmap and future of the game with the players wishes at heart!

Jump in the discord and stay in touch :)
