changedA (Big) AnnouncementSome of you may be wondering where I've been this whole time, and especially since the game was last updated. To put a long story short, 2025 was a bit of a crazy year for me, so I didn't really have any time to pay attention to this game. Plus, I started work on my other game Crush The Rebellion! , which ate up most of my spare time (and was also a nice distraction from everything else going on) last year. I also started another project after releasing Crush The Rebellion! , but after producing a nice little tech demo I'm a bit stuck for ideas with it, and it will probably take a good couple of years to finish in its own right.

addedNice to haveI can't say exactly what will be in the next update, but at a minimum it will revamp Map 4. This level had always been the most controversial one, and probably led to a few people not wanting to finish the game, so it's been on my radar for a while now to do something about it (and something that isn't just a band-aid fix). Much of the rework will be focussed on the maze section (which doesn't appear on the "partial" map), but I also plan to add another pickup that "completes" the map for you and reveals the maze once the rework is done. This pickup would only be available on easy/medium difficulty however, so if you did enjoy exploring the level you'll still be able to play on the harder difficulties and have a similar experience as before.
addedNice to haveThe other main sore spot I had was the achievement icons. I had to leave them out of the initial release as they were just going to take too long, but having the same generic icon for all of them does make the game feel a little unfinished. However, the priority will be to fix Map 4, so I will only include new icons if there's time once that's done. If it doesn't go into the next update though, I will try to release another update with achievement icons afterwards (again, no timescale on any future updates).
addedNice to haveAs for everything else, it's not a priority right now - especially the controller support. The main issue with controller support is that it will require a lot of new code, and some things in the codebase are a little bit fragile which makes me afraid to touch them! So before I can add controller support and other new features like that, I will have to rewrite a bunch of stuff first (mainly the menus which are completely spaghettified at this point). I would like to implement it one day though, as it's the last major hurdle before the game can have full Steam Deck support.

Time flies, and the battle between Germans and some (almost) undead Russians, known to history as the Attack of the Dead Men, turns 111 years old this week! Oh, and a certain game based on the same battle is also having a birthday this week... Haunted: Attack of the Dead Men is now also two years old!

To mark this occasion, the game will be on sale with its steepest discount yet - 90% off! So now will be a great time to pick the game up if it's been on your wishlist for a while. But that's not all...

A (Big) Announcement

Some of you may be wondering where I've been this whole time, and especially since the game was last updated. To put a long story short, 2025 was a bit of a crazy year for me, so I didn't really have any time to pay attention to this game. Plus, I started work on my other game Crush The Rebellion!, which ate up most of my spare time (and was also a nice distraction from everything else going on) last year. I also started another project after releasing Crush The Rebellion!, but after producing a nice little tech demo I'm a bit stuck for ideas with it, and it will probably take a good couple of years to finish in its own right.

As a result of all this, I've come to the conclusion that people probably don't want to wait another two years for news or updates to this game - so it's finally time to commit to giving Haunted a proper update.

I don't really have specifics yet, and I won't commit to a release date either as I won't be able to start working on it until at least September (again, kinda busy at the moment!). I will, however, outline what I would like to include in the update.

Essential

  • Revamp/rework of Map 4

Not essential, but hopefully (if there's time)

  • Unique icons for each achievement

  • Updates to some of the enemy sprites (namely the machinegunner)

Nice to have

  • Controller support

  • Steam Deck support

I can't say exactly what will be in the next update, but at a minimum it will revamp Map 4.

The other main sore spot I had was the achievement icons.

As for everything else, it's not a priority right now - especially the controller support.

Well, that was longer than expected for this announcement! Enjoy the sale, it will last all week so you have plenty of time to buy the game. Hopefully this announcement has interested a few of you as well, and made it clear that I'm not dead and neither am I abandoning this game - I'm just one person after all, so I can only work on this when I have the spare time for it!

That's all for this update though. As always, thanks for reading!
