Hi! I’m Steve, the main developer of GunBlocks.

After a long period of silence, we’re ready to gather feedback from a wider audience! But first a little about the history of GunBlocks so far.

History

The core idea for the game is based on a dream which I had in 2011. In the dream I’ve played a 1:1 Tetris multiplayer session but with somehow more functional tetrominos. It’s a bit hard to describe but at the bottom part of the game was a lot going on like small figures are moving and stuff. Hard to remember for me now, but I was really hyped as I woke up. That was the beginning of a long way of changing and evolving prototypes.

The first big step was a pre-alpha demo in 2014. It was available on our website and on Game Jolt. We’ve received a lot of positiv and helpful feedback. It was quite motivating to keep the project going on, even though we had little time for development.

What makes the development most challenging is the hard to understand genre mix of many game mechanics. We tried to make the explanation as interesting as possible. So the tutorial is already a part of the story.

After fleshing out all of the important parts of the game like level design, enemies, and puzzles we need your input now. We’ve prepared a playable part of the game which is called the Prologue. It’s much more enhanced than the old pre-alpha demo from 2014.

Since it’s still an alpha version you can only find it on our Discord server for now. As soon as the Prologue is polished enough, we’ll make it playable as an official demo on Steam!

What’s the current status of the Prologue?

It’s not yet tested on many computers so technical issues may happen. Most of the sound effects are placeholders and the dialogues need proofreading. Besides that it’s in a (hopefully) good shape :-)

The most interesting question for us is if the game mechanic is understandable and fun. Even though if it's just a short part of the game, most of the vital parts are presented.

Let us know if you enjoyed the game and help us finding the bugs!
