changedKevin is back again with another Developer Diary! This time we’re delving into our planned overhaul of the Overclocks system. Thanks to your invaluable feedback, we found ways to make each run feel more unique and satisfying. Overclocks can be equipped to Mechs in the Mech Yard after earning enough Power (granted by Modules). These give your Mechs a definitive edge during combat, such as by dealing more damage against bosses or reviving your Mech once it reaches 0 HP. However, we felt that this system was going underused for a few reasons:
changedClear winners for most OP Overclocks (Phoenix Protocol *cough*)
addedSteam post image In our new system, coming in Update 4 along with VR Mode on 21 August, Overclocks are now accessible through collecting rewards during gameplay. Their other core mechanics remain similar but with some key improvements:
addedBetter run variation – Overclocks no longer carry over into new runs so different combinations can be chosen each run with no go-to choices
changedPlaystyle defining - Overclocks are now more playstyle defining. Enhancement and Boosts have been reworked to be more Power focused to complement this
addedMore accessible – Overclocks are now available during main gameplay and from the get-go

These give your Mechs a definitive edge during combat, such as by dealing more damage against bosses or reviving your Mech once it reaches 0 HP. However, we felt that this system was going underused for a few reasons:

  • Limited variety

  • Clear winners for most OP Overclocks (Phoenix Protocol *cough*)

  • Hidden away in the Mech Yard

  • Grindy to earn Power for Overclock slots

Steam post image In our new system, coming in Update 4 along with VR Mode on 21 August, Overclocks are now accessible through collecting rewards during gameplay. Their other core mechanics remain similar but with some key improvements:

  • More Overclocks – a greater variety of Overclocks to choose from

  • Better run variation – Overclocks no longer carry over into new runs so different combinations can be chosen each run with no go-to choices

  • Playstyle defining - Overclocks are now more playstyle defining. Enhancement and Boosts have been reworked to be more Power focused to complement this

  • More accessible – Overclocks are now available during main gameplay and from the get-go

New Overclock Examples

  • Phalanx Resolve – When this Mech kills an enemy, a nearby ally restores health

  • Adrenal Redline – While at low health, this Mechs fire rate and movement speed are increased every second, stacking up to 100 times

You'll hear all the full details about the updated Overclocks system in the full Update 4 patch notes on 21 August!
