Going Medieval changes
Going Medieval is a colony sim builder. And while the building part is the one that tends to resonate with you the most, the simulation part is not quite where we want it to be yet. That is completely understandable. Interactions between settlers are still fairly basic, and when they do not have anything to do, they mostly just… idle. Not exactly the most immersive experience. So, we want to improve that.
One part of this is animations. Right now, idle behavior usually means settlers standing in place, scratching their heads, maybe stretching a bit, and taking a few steps here and there. We’re reworking idle goals and adding new animations, which should create some more interesting and natural moments.
In the upcoming update, when settlers are idle, they’ll be able to lean against walls, rest on chairs, “talk” among themselves, or even just sit on open ground.
Merchants and other NPC units will try to behave a bit more naturally too. Merchants will stay near their stalls, while their guards may lean against nearby walls or use furniture if it is close. If they are in rooms like the Great Hall, they’ll tend to sit there and rest.
Your settlers will also have the opportunity to pet animals, yours and the ones that come with NPCs. This is a very optional action that can give some small mood boost and social interaction boost to your settler, because… why not?
And while we are on the subject of animals, we plan to introduce additional control options for them. In the upcoming update you will be able to choose pets’ sleep preference. Select if you want for them to roam outside, inside, within the chamber of their owner or anywhere. In addition to that, you can choose if you want them to idle outside (they prefer a home area) or inside (preferring Great Hall if present).
The idea behind all this is to make idleness feel more like a form of leisure activity. We want settlers to feel a bit more Sims-like, rather than idleness simply being a warning that your settlers need something to do. Let them chill. These are harsh times.
Another part of this sims-like experience is reworking mood, emotions, and certain actions. Expect more interactions, perk evolution, and drama. Oh, the drama.
More on that next week in the new MMT. While you wait, let us know how this feels to you, and if you have any ideas for specific actions or idle behaviors. And be sure to…
Stay medieval!
