changedSince GILTSTEADER's early development, playtesters have been providing feedback on how the game performed on the Steam Deck, which ultimately led to the addition of controller support and other features to help make the game ready for Steam Deck verification. Recently, I was finally able to test it out for myself, and the experience was incredible! While we are still waiting on official Steam Deck verification, I thought it'd be worthwhile to walk through the criteria from Steam's compatibility review process and let the community know how GILTSTEADER performed based on my own experience:
changedInputController support: The game has Xbox controller support which works natively with the Steam Deck's physical controls that match what is available on an Xbox controller. Everything worked and felt the same as using a controller. Controller glyphs: When using a controller, the glyphs in-game automatically change to controller glyphs. Text input: Not applicable as the game has no text input boxes.
changedDisplayResolution support: The game detects the Steam Deck's native resolution and automatically runs at 1200x800. The game's UI automatically adjusts to various resolutions. Default configuration: The game's default configuration (such as graphics and post-FX) ran smoothly on the Steam Deck throughout my playthroughs. Text legibility: All UI text was legible, and the only instance of hard-to-read text was some of the turret pop-up menu when the camera was fully zoomed-out.
changedSeamlessnessCompatibility warnings: No compatibility warnings were given, as the game runs natively on Windows. Launchers: The game does not have a launcher. While we await official verification from Steam, I can confidently say that the experiences of myself and playtesters on the Steam Deck have been overwhelmingly positive. Go try it for yourself!
