Hello world! Welcome to the first ever Gateworlds devlog.

Since this is our very first devlog I thought It'd be best to ask and answer the fundamental question: What is Gateworlds? Gateworlds is a story-generating colony sim set in a fantasy universe of shattered worlds and magical wilderness. You'll travel across floating disc worlds via mystical gates, facing ever stranger and more dangerous threats on your journey. Our goal is to make a game that takes the deeply satisfying feelings of exploration and progression seen in survival crafting games (like Valheim, Don't Starve, and Terraria), but then pair it with the depth of management and drama that comes from simulation games (like RimWorld, Dwarf Fortress, and Kenshi).

The core game loop will be in two parts: First you set out on expeditions to explore new worlds, and then you return home to maintain your settlement. To thrive on the Gateworlds you'll need to tend to the needs and desires of your people, build bases, grow crops, and craft items. Each individual has their own personality and their own needs to be fulfilled, including the desire to form relationships and socialise.

Unlike the standard base building colony sim, you’re able to freely pack up what you've built and transport it to another world via the Gate. As you traverse other worlds you'll encounter a vast array of challenges and mysteries.

You'll need to forge powerful weapons and armour to face bosses and uncover hidden loot. You might find other settlements trying to survive on these shattered worlds who may or may not be friendly. There will also be a pantheon of gods that you can either worship or snub at your own risk (beware of smiting!).

That pretty much sums up the overview of Gateworlds, in future updates we’ll provide more details on the various systems and features we’re working on.

Goodbye for now.
