Hello! Welcome!
Hello everyone! It’s the end of May! Summertime is just around the corner! I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend and that the weather where you are is treating you well.
I’m not gonna linger too much in this intro, but I’ll say before getting started that Short Short Fest 2026 is happening and Gappy will be there, again!
I know they are opening another event in California this year, sadly I won’t be able to go out west. So the Philly and Michigan event will be the only one Gappy and I make an appearance at this year. But! If you’re on the west coast I’d still recommend going! I can only imagine cool people showing up! and the more of you there are, the more that scene can grow over there!
Anyways, enough jabbering, I wanna talk about the worlds of Gappy's adventure!
Levels, Worlds, Quick-saves and Game Overs
Gappy’s adventure will have a total of 32 levels! For most platformers in this style that doesn't seem like many. But I pride myself on making really fun, engaging and admittedly pretty decent sized levels. And MOST levels (especially in the later worlds) are split into multiple sub-section. Past the first world, it's pretty common for levels to be split into at least 3-4 sections. So far, with the levels of world 5 and 4 barely even started, there are 34 unique level sections! These sections encompass levels 1-1, through 3-3!
Granted, not all of these sub-sections are made equally. Some are single screen sections, but some hold multiple, single-screen rooms you access at later points. This is all to say that the level count itself is small, but the amount of level there is quite massive! Lots of places to have fun at!
Each world is split into 4 levels, the last level being the Boss Level of each respective world. During the You do have a little overworld map to represent where you are progression wise. But unlike most games with maps like these, you cannot choose which level to play next as the game is entirely linear. You also cannot play levels you’ve already beaten.
So if you can't 'navigate' the world map, is there anything I can do on it? Yes! To the more observant viewers, the overworld map is where you gain access to Parallelogram Man's shop!
You'll also be able to make quick-save points! Quick-saves will allow you to save your progress halfway through a world if you need to put down the game and pick it up later. However, since during normal game play upon getting a game over you restart from the 1st level of the current world, loading a quick save will erase it directly after loading into it so NO SAVE SCUMMING ON MY WATCH!
The Post-game / Free-play
Every time I mention that Gappy has lives, I feel like the game just instantly loses the appeal to half the people reading these or checking the game out, rest assured, they won't be taken out but you won't have to deal with them forever!
Upon beating the 20 level campaign. The game will go into 'free-play' mode where you not only will be able to play previously beaten levels, but you can also play them with infinite lives! How nice!
Along with access to all 20 campaign levels, you'll also be able to unlock 12 extra levels exclusive to the post-game! Used by spending your collected bottle caps you've found while exploring. Each level has 3 of them hidden, and all locked levels will cost 5 bottle caps, so keep an eye out for em!
ARTIST CORNER : SomeApe
SomeApe is a talented artist, animator and friend! :-)
You can check him out on Twitter, Instagram, Youtube and Newgrounds respectively
His art has very clean, simple lines and they end up doing a lot of cool stuff with water-color, they also seem to always have commissions over and he gets em' done fast! If you want, throw em' some many and he'll draw ya up something cool I reckon. I don't got much to say tho... sorry
mario breathing.
Closing Remarks
Not much too say in regards to the closing. Just working hard on getting this game done, and done good.
I'll leave off with some exciting news though! July I'll be starting the recording of a new trailer announcing Gappy's release date, and hopefully releasing it shortly there after. And Short Short fest will be beginning of August, and at the end of august I will be going on a short vacation going into the first week of September. I plan as of right now, after getting back home is spending the entire month on expanding on the bones of the in-game Gappy level editor.
I've been very much looking forward writing a post on that! So lots of good things are moving along and soon will be wonderful to show off!
Also, thank you again facu for doing art for this month's Gappy bi-monthly! <3
Till next time!
