addedNew FeaturesNew World Generator - The terrain generator has been rebuilt from the ground up. It is several times faster and produces real overhangs, mountain shelves and recessed cliffs that the old terrain could never form. Old save games work, but you will see disconnected/ugly seams between newly generated and saved areas due to the large amount of changes on the algorithm.
changedNew FeaturesRivers Through Mountains - Rivers carve proper channels with natural banks, and where they meet high terrain they bore through it as tunnels under real connected stone instead of splitting the landscape open.
addedNew FeaturesNew Cave System - Caves are now large underground caverns linked by wide tunnels that reach the surface. Caves are also much more detailed (if the details are enabled from graphics settings).
addedNew FeaturesWorld Generation Options - The New Game screen now has settings for ore deposit frequency (Sparse, Normal, Rich) and ore richness (Lean, Normal, Abundant). More settings will be added later.
addedNew FeaturesNew Terrain Preview - The New Game map preview shows the exact terrain your seed will generate, including rivers and mountains. A new overlay shows where coal, iron and copper deposits are.
changedNew FeaturesReworked Pebbles - Ground pebbles are now varied half-buried rocks in all shapes and sizes, scattered in natural patches instead of even sprinkles.

FluxWerks v0.3.1 - 04-07-2026

New Features

  • New World Generator - The terrain generator has been rebuilt from the ground up. It is several times faster and produces real overhangs, mountain shelves and recessed cliffs that the old terrain could never form. Old save games work, but you will see disconnected/ugly seams between newly generated and saved areas due to the large amount of changes on the algorithm.

  • Rivers Through Mountains - Rivers carve proper channels with natural banks, and where they meet high terrain they bore through it as tunnels under real connected stone instead of splitting the landscape open.

  • New Cave System - Caves are now large underground caverns linked by wide tunnels that reach the surface. Caves are also much more detailed (if the details are enabled from graphics settings).

  • Landmark Structures - Various structures now generate around the world, from ruins and monuments to natural formations.

  • World Generation Options - The New Game screen now has settings for ore deposit frequency (Sparse, Normal, Rich) and ore richness (Lean, Normal, Abundant). More settings will be added later.

  • New Terrain Preview - The New Game map preview shows the exact terrain your seed will generate, including rivers and mountains. A new overlay shows where coal, iron and copper deposits are.

  • Surface Decorations - Flowers grow on grass, moss grows in sheltered caves and on the sides and undersides of grassy ledges, vines hang under overhangs and cave ceilings, and grass now grows in shaded cave mouths. Stalactites and stalagmites grow in caves, dominating dry caverns while humid caves have more vines.

  • Reworked Pebbles - Ground pebbles are now varied half-buried rocks in all shapes and sizes, scattered in natural patches instead of even sprinkles.

  • Cave Darkness - Caves and enclosed spaces are now naturally dark, with daylight pooling in through openings.

Improvements

  • Slow Movement - Hold Shift to move at a reduced speed for precise navigation in tight spaces like caves. The key is rebindable in the settings.

  • Vertical Look Movement - While holding the camera orbit button, moving forward or back now follows your view angle, so aiming down and moving forward flies you downward. On by default, with a toggle in Settings.

  • Camera Smoothing - New optional setting that slightly smooths fast camera turns. Off by default.

  • Optimized Transport Rendering - Improved belt and pipe rendering to be up to 10x faster on large bases.

  • Optimized fluid pumps - Fixed a once-per-second stutter on large bases caused by pump fluid transfers running far slower than intended.

  • Smoother Frame Pacing - Removed various causes for sudden frame rate drops.

  • Smoother Exploration - Removed heavy frame spikes while moving fast across the world, caused by terrain loading and visibility updates.

  • Optimized Heat Simulation - Greatly reduced the performance cost of the temperature simulation in bases with lots of heat sources.

  • Optimized Simulation Systems - Reduced the per-frame cost of belts, pipes, building overlays and several other simulation systems on large bases.

  • Optimized Fluid Rendering - Fluid surfaces rebuild several times faster and are faster to render.

  • Oil Scanning - The scanner now detects underground oil reservoirs.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a crash that could happen in heavily built-up or fluid-filled areas.

  • Fixed a memory leak that slowly built up while moving around near water and other fluids.

  • Fixed severe frame rate drops in bases with many wind turbines.

  • Fixed a rendering error that could appear when demolishing belts.

  • Fixed water surfaces dipping down at chunk corners while flying over oceans, leaving a visible seam.

  • Fixed the water surface diving to the floor when building terrain or blocks on top of full water.

  • Fixed sharp terrain walls and multi-block ledges appearing in the middle of biomes along invisible climate boundaries.

  • Fixed rivers stopping just short of lakes behind a strip of beach.

  • Fixed grass and other ground details glowing brighter than the terrain on their shadow side, most visibly at sunrise and sunset.

  • Fixed movement being slower straight up and down than sideways, and faster when moving diagonally. All directions now share the same speed cap.

Balance Changes

  • Ore Distribution - Ore now follows a distance curve: near spawn you find many small lean deposits, with coal, iron and copper guaranteed in the starter area, while far from spawn deposits become rare but far larger and richer.

  • Coal Depth - Coal no longer spawns right on the surface.

  • Movement Speed - Increased player movement speed by 50%.

  • Sulfur Deposits - Sulfur now also spawns in volcanic biomes.
