changedIs this a "flatscreen" port of Floor Plan 2?Yes but it's also more. We tried making a direct port first, and honestly, it didn't work very well. Floor Plan 2 initially lost a lot of what made the game special when we took VR away. Trying to approximate or work around the things that were designed for VR didn't feel good enough. So we changed course.
addedIs this a "flatscreen" port of Floor Plan 2?We started thinking about it less like a port, and more like turning a book into a movie. We took apart Floor Plan 2 and used the pieces to make something different. We added a lot of new stuff that feels great on controller or keyboard but wouldn't feel good in VR. And we've also made some big changes to sections of the game that needed it. So that's why we're saying Slap Out Of It! is an adaptation of Floor Plan 2 rather than a port.
addedIs this a "flatscreen" port of Floor Plan 2?So if you or a friend wanted to play Floor Plan 2 without VR, Slap Out Of It! will definitely do the trick. But if you're a Floor Plan fan looking for more Floor Plan, we think there's enough new here for you too.
addedWhat's different in Slap Out Of It?The moment to moment feel of Slap Out Of It! is very different from Floor Plan 2. Slapping is now your primary interaction with everything around you. We've built a huge comedy sandbox that revolves around slapping everything in the environment (the way you'd click on everything in a point and click). While Floor Plan 2's puzzles and gameplay were designed around specific points of interest on each floor, Slap Out Of It! is heavier on exploration. We've expanded and added detail to areas of each floor that you couldn't get close to in Floor Plan 2.

We've also made lots of updates to the game's writing and graphics, and of course, there are some new and changed puzzles too. Hi everyone!

Holden from Turbo Button here. We recently announced Floor Plan: Slap Out Of It! - a slap-and-solve evolution of the Floor Plan series that brings it outside of VR for the first time.

It's coming to PC and console platforms in 2027. It should look familiar to Floor Plan 2 fans, and so we wanted to talk directly to you to about what this is and why we're making it.

Slap Out Of It FAQ

Is this a "flatscreen" port of Floor Plan 2?

Yes but it's also more. We tried making a direct port first, and honestly, it didn't work very well. Floor Plan 2 initially lost a lot of what made the game special when we took VR away. Trying to approximate or work around the things that were designed for VR didn't feel good enough. So we changed course.

We started thinking about it less like a port, and more like turning a book into a movie.

So if you or a friend wanted to play Floor Plan 2 without VR, Slap Out Of It! will definitely do the trick. But if you're a Floor Plan fan looking for more Floor Plan, we think there's enough new here for you too.

What's different in Slap Out Of It?

The moment to moment feel of Slap Out Of It! is very different from Floor Plan 2.

There are tons of new gags and jokes to discover. We've also made lots of updates to the game's writing and graphics, and of course, there are some new and changed puzzles too. Take a look at some of the new things in the training room at the start of the game, for example:

Will content from Slap Out Of It! be added to Floor Plan 2?

No, the changes we're making for Slap Out Of It! aren't all additive. In many cases we're changing puzzles or replacing them entirely. And these changes are designed for gamepads or keyboard + mouse, not VR hand controllers, and use interactions that don't exist in Floor Plan 2.

After releasing Floor Plan 2, we nearly doubled the amount of content in the game with the free Backside Story update in 2023. That was our final content update to the game. We do intend to continue supporting Floor Plan 2 into the future, though, and we're evaluating things like Steam Frame support.

Why did you change the name?

We wanted the name to reflect the new primary mechanic - slapping - and also communicate that this was more than a port of Floor Plan 2. Slapping is so central to this version of the game that it is the stronger part of its identity, even moreso than the elevators that Floor Plan is known for.

However, we acknowledge that we created confusion among players who already knew the Floor Plan name, and so we're in the process of adding "Floor Plan" back to the front of the name now. The Steam page already says "Floor Plan: Slap Out Of It!" and logo updates will be coming soon.

Why aren't you making another VR game?

It's no secret that sales of premium, single player VR games have shrunk significantly since Floor Plan 2 released in 2021. We also don't have a publisher or investors - we're a tiny indie team sustained entirely by the sales of our own games. We did prototype and pitch some new VR concepts after Floor Plan 2, but we didn't believe we had a good chance of making our money back with a new VR game right now and decided to not move forward with them. In addition to that, we've exclusively made VR games for a decade. That's a long time to do any one thing, and this felt like the right time to try something different.

We still love VR, and we still have ideas that would be fun to explore in VR someday - but ultimately our love is making silly comedy games, and we want to continue doing that even if it's outside of VR.

Will Slap Out Of It! be playable in VR?

No, the two games share a lot of content and Floor Plan 2 will be the best way to experience that content in VR. We spent tons of effort making Floor Plan 2 feel amazing in VR, and making sure everything felt natural and fun with VR motion controllers. Slap Out Of It! is that way for gamepads - it wouldn't be as good in VR.

Will Slap Out Of It! be free / discounted for Floor Plan 2 owners?

It probably won't be free - there really is a lot of new stuff going in here, and our team of 4 cannot afford to give away so much for free like we did with Backside Story. But we are looking into ways of offering discounts to Floor Plan 2 owners. We'll have more news on that when we get closer to launch.

Thank You

We wouldn't be here without the support of our VR players, and we're so thankful you've given us a chance to make games like this. Whether you're a Floor Plan fan looking for more Floor Plan, or someone who hasn't had access to VR hardware to play the Floor Plan games, we hope you'll give Slap Out Of It! a chance and wishlist to keep up to date with news about the game over there.

Love,

Turbo Button
