Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School changes
đWISHLIST ESCAPE ACADEMY 2!đ
Hey there, Escapists!
We promised a locomotion blog a long time ago that never got to see the light of day; but thatâs for good reason.
If youâve been keeping up with our development, you know that campus is BIG. If youâre going to pick up some Herring and Milk from the Headmasterâs Tower and make it to your class in the Campus Gardens with Professor Bonilla on time, youâre gonna need something a little extra.
Introducing: The Zipline!
Steam post imageThe zipline is your best friend. The zipline is that which youâll tell all of your deepest, darkest secrets to. The zipline is everything and more. đïž
Weâve gone back and forth on different methods of transportation across the campus, and ziplines are what we have settled on as the primary cross-campus form of travel.
WIP footage of zipline transportation.
Meet The Ips!
The Ips are a ragtag gang of students who are just here for the zips. Youâll meet these scruffy youngsters in the courtyard of the Academy before finding yourself all over campus in the blink of an eye thanks to the speed of their zipline network.
For the low-low price of 12 Escape Bucks, you can get a Zip from Skip, Trip, Chip, Pip, or Charles of the Ips TODAY! And if you act now and send in a payment of 36 Escape Bucks, weâll throw in 2 extra ziplines for absolutely free!
The Ips will greet you as the zipline fanatics they are, each with their own little quirks and aspirations. On each of the campuses, youâll slowly be able to help them accomplish their wildest hopes and dreams in the form of interest-free $12 âżá”âżÊłá”ᶠá”âżá”á”á”ËĄá” payments to expand the zipline network around campus!
Bikes - Why Didnât They Work?
Before we ever had the ziplines system, we knew that we would need an alternate method of locomotion. The campus was starting to feel large enough that once we started implementing later systems such as trespassing and the Infirmary (more on that in another blog đ), we were worried that a faster form of getting around beyond sprinting would be needed. Taking strolls through scenic routes on campus is fun and all, but every player has different wants/needs, and while some players might be into that, we wanted to give options to the players who are just here for the puzzles.
Additionally, bikes silently demanded that the player stay on the ground, which complicated our relationship with them. One of Escape Academy 2âs biggest goals is to give the player more freedom over the original, so we never want a feature we add to restrict the player, unless that restriction inherently gives way to something else fun; like a lock gating off a room, for example.
So, it is with a not-so-heavy heart that we introduce ziplines. We think that this form of transportation will make campus feel smaller through making everything more easily accesible by the player. Additionally, we hope that speedrunners will be able to find some creative zipline routes that we didnât think of.
What do you think of Zips?
Let us know in the comments! Weâre very excited for the different opportunities ziplines will be able to open up to players, and weâre excited for you to dig into the associated quest!
Donât forget to join our Discord and check out our other socials if youâd like to see some sneak peeks you wonât be able to see on Steam! Thatâs all weâve got for now, and we hope to see you in the next one. If you have any thoughts, let us know what youâd like to see next đ
With Love,
