Hey there, Escapists!

Today we’re going a little off-curriculum with something we’re excited to tell you about: Extra Credit. If you’re a teacher’s pet, completionist, or just someone who loves going the extra mile, this blog post is for you!

As you may know from our previous blog posts, we have two types of quest systems, which we’ve been referring to as “ crit-path ” (the main story) and another quest type: The semi-optional, semi-mandatory Extra Credit quest.

Steam post imageLet’s get into it.

Semi-Optional, Mega Entertaining!

When we say “ semi-optional ” we mean that Extra Credit isn’t something that you have to completely finish in order to make it through all of the game’s story. However, there are some sections of the story we’ve designed to demand a player’s interaction with the Extra Credit content. Our goal is for this to serve as a means to both keep playthroughs fresh and simulataneously allow an opportunity for you to dip your toes in the side content without feeling like you’re deviating from the main story too much.

This dynamic gameplay also enables NPC interactions to feel more concrete and real as you go around campus helping fellow students during your second year at the Academy. As you continue to explore the campus, our hope is that the world will change with your input. Whether it’s for the better… that’s up to you.

A Sneak Peek At What’s To Come!

At this point in development, there are over 20 Extra Credit quests, ranging from things like feeding a cat (very original, we know!) to helping out the Clown Club, which we’d like to inform is no laughing matter.🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡

Steam post imageIf you’re more into picnic-ing than clowning around, that’s okay. We’ve got a little something for everyone at the Academy.

Want to know a little more about this space? Check out our 12th devlog, “ Oh, The Humanity!” where we dive into the Humanities campus and what you can expect from the Academy’s historical curriculum!

Return Of An Old Friend (or enemy…)

Some of you loved it. Some of you couldn’t stand it. Say hello to the new and improved Rubik’s Grid, now here to terrorize you in Escape Academy 2 too.

I can’t reveal too too much about it right now, but we thought sticking another rubik’s grid in the Extra Credit section was only fair. A lot of you didn’t like the difficulty of the original Rubik’s Grid, especially because it was placed on the main path for the story, so we hope this can be a reasonable compromise for all the Grid Haters™ out there.

Okay, but what’s in it for me?

Up to this point, I’ve talked a lot about main-story progression and vague rewards, but here’s the sitch: You’ll be getting some nice, crisp Escape Bucks for your troubles, which will help fuel the money required for the main story progression while also leaving room for some extra rewards if you choose to participate!

More on this in our next blog post…

Speedrunning

It’s occuring to me as I write this that we’ve never actually taken an official “stance” on speedrunners, so I’d like to say that we are more than ecstatic to see all of the ways you break our game.

We’re hoping to be more in touch with the Escape Academy speedrunning community this time around, so if you like our games and playing them fast, join our Discord! You could help shape the future of the CCG community, and we’d love to have you.

That’s all for now!

This was a super fun blog post, and we’re super excited for you to dive into the 20+ other Extra Credit quests waiting for you around campus. Will you be an A+ student, or do Cs get degrees? Only time will tell! We’ll see you in the next one; but don’t forget to...
