Side Quests in the Western Open Upperworld

Howdy Cowboys,

In today’s dev update, I want to show you another facet of the overworld that makes Erosion unique as a roguelike. Pop will quickly find that the dungeon can be very unforgiving. The bandits who have kidnapped his daughter have a whole host of wacky and dangerous powers that will make it really difficult to reach her.

While you may be able to find a strong loadout and go on a deep run, you’ll have the opportunity to increase your baseline power level by building out your Camp in the upper world. This will let each run be more consistent and increase your chances of reaching your daughter.

The overworld is full of characters, factions and quests to help upgrade your Camp. When your deaths skip time forward, so will their stories. In today’s dev log, I’m going to share a few of the quests and minigames in the upper world.

Hover Racing

What’s the point of having hover trucks if you aren’t going to race them? In the world of Erosion, racing rallies are big events where ruffians, goblins and townies come to watch from all over the land. Speeding across the desert through the night, can you claim victory to become the road king of the dunes?

Cowboy Poker

You gotta know when to hold’em and know when to fold’em. In Neu Amsterdam, you’ll run into a few casual gamblers who will invite you to a friendly game of poker. But the stakes are a lot higher if you want to play at the Al Cashino. Don’t worry. If you fall victim to lady luck, you can make the whole joint your victims in a shootout.

Sandfishing

The dunes are full of surprises under the sandy surface. At certain spots, the locals enjoy the pastime of sandfishing. But hold on tight! The sandfish here are a little bit rowdy. In order to reel one in, you’ll need to stay on the line like you’re on hold with customer service. Stay tethered until you tire them out and can claim your prize.

I know we first mentioned the playtest a while ago but we will finally be doing it next month in June! It's going to have a lot of content so you can start to feel the full experience.
