We have gathered a lot of content from a very important Elusive location, for many reasons, so we wanted to dedicate an entire update to it: Welcome to Lair.

What is Lair?

In a world where the Elusive exist —creatures as tiny as insects— and where everything around them can threaten their lives, a small refuge where they can feel safe is essential.

Here, on the lowest level of Casa Grande, with direct access to Jardín—a place of both dangers and opportunities—lies Lair.

Lair is this place of gathering and rest, not only for Zoe, but for other Elusive. Some have been here a long time and will remain as long as it is safe; others are just passing through, some are no longer here though signs of their presence remain, and others have just arrived, like our young protagonist.

In Lair, the Elusive are safe from environmental and animal threats, and have established their tiny society. Without mutual support through the exchange of resources, information, and other services, these tiny beings could hardly survive, so it’s lucky for a raider like Zoe to have stumbled upon this place, isn’t it?

Rest up, get ready

During the countless raids we’ll undertake with Zoe while playing Elusive, Lair will always be the place we can return to when our backpack is full or our health is low.

This safe zone is connected to several entrances/shortcuts inside Casa Grande as well as to Jardín, making it a strategic location for moving around more efficiently.

The Bonfires also take place in Lair: moments that advance the narrative of Elusive and mark the end of a raid run until the following morning.

Our personal playground

We’re aware that a place like Lair isn’t a typical feature of Metroidvania games, it might even seem more like something you’d find in the survival genre (and not even that common), but this is where our Chibig personality really shines through.

By constantly putting ourselves in the shoes of Zoe and the Elusive, we’d love to be certain that in such a hostile world, we’ve at least found a safe space where we can let our guard down (literally and metaphorically) before facing the world again.

Let’s just say it’s the little personal touch we want to add to leave our mark on this genre!

Plus, since Lair is further along in development than other areas, it’s letting us run a lot of lighting and performance tests that we can apply to the rest of the game.
