Dunebound Tactics changes
So, you’ve set off into the endless sands, caravan creaks under your heels, and suddenly—oh no—you’re out of Elios. No fuel, no movement. No movement… well, RIP.
Before we dive into survival tips, let’s talk about what makes Elios so special.
What is Elios?
It’s not just fuel—it’s a triple-point state of matter, existing as a solid, liquid, and gas all at once. This strange, ever-shifting nature makes it incredibly powerful but also highly unstable. If not collected in time, it seeps back into the environment, lost forever.
And since your entire journey depends on keeping a steady supply, knowing how to manage Elios is the difference between survival and becoming another wreck buried in the dunes.
On that note:
Stick Around for that sweet, sweet Elios
When enemies die, they don’t just leave behind loot—they release Elios fields. Standing around the statue of your former adversary you can collect a whole bunch of it.
If you want to be cheeky, you can bait two enemies next to one another and gather double the Elios per turn- by positioning your crew-mate at the overlapping space of the fields!
Just remember: If you rush off too soon, that energy disperses into the sands. Stay put, soak it up, and make sure your ship keeps running.
Medbay Is Nice… but Pricey
Healing is great, but here’s the catch: the Medbay runs on Elios. You’re literally burning your fuel to patch up your crew.
Sometimes that’s worth it, but other times? Maybe just walk it off. A bruised fighter is better than a dead caravan stranded in the dunes.
Keep in mind that, when used, each slot multiplies your consumption by distance traveled. Don't get me wrong, its a useful tool, but sometimes the "all for one" approach instead of the "one for all" strategy is risky.
…Or You Could Just, You Know, "Repurpose" Your Crew
Hard truth time—your crew is also made of Elios. Every last one of them.
Look, tough choices have to be made in the wasteland. If you’re desperate, your crew technically counts as a walking, talking fuel source.
If you’re desperate, you can extract that precious energy from their bodies, turning them into fuel for the caravan. That breaks them in the process, but they are technically alive (the first time you convert them). Sure, it’s a bit grim, but out here, survival isn’t pretty. Besides, would they rather walk through the desert? No? Thought so.
The Last Stand – A Final, Desperate Fight
When all else fails, when your Elios reserves are dry, and the sands have turned against you, there’s only one option left—Last Stand.
This isn’t just another fight; it’s a desperate, all-or-nothing battle where every single member of your caravan takes up arms. Enemies will swarm from all sides, and survival is far from guaranteed. But if you manage to claw your way through, you’ll earn one final burst of Elios—just enough to push forward.
There’s no cheesing this, no spamming it for easy fuel. It’s a one-time deal per run, so use it wisely. If you trigger it too soon, you might not have the strength to survive. Too late, and, well… the desert doesn’t leave second chances.
And there you have it! Manage your fuel wisely, make the hard calls when needed, and keep that caravan moving at all costs! Got a better way to stockpile Elios? Share your wisdom—we promise we won’t judge… much.
