Hey everyone!
Dread Protocol now supports 12 languages. The full interface has been localised into 11 new languages on top of English. This is interface text only for now, there's no localised voice-over.
That's around 4,000 lines of in-game text, over 22,500 English words, roughly a short novel's worth, now ready to read in your own language.
Languages now supported:
English, French, Spanish (Latin America), Italian, German, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Simplified Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Polish, Turkish.
The game will load in your PC's native language automatically. If you'd rather play in something else, you can switch any time from the settings menu.
I've also added separate volume sliders for Star Map voices and character barks, so if the English voice-over clashes with your language you can turn it right down, or off.
A note on how this was done:
as a solo dev, getting 11 languages out the door meant the localisation was AI-assisted. Think of it as a strong starting point rather than a finished, hand-polished translation. If there's enough interest in the game, I'd love to improve it properly down the line. For now, if you spot anything that reads oddly, a clunky phrase, a wrong word, or an area I missed entirely (a rare interaction UI, an encounter name, anything still showing in English), please drop it in the Steam forums or the Discord. That feedback is exactly what will make the next pass better.
Other fixes in this update:
Headshots now deal extra damage, with damage numbers colour-coded so crits and headshots are easy to read
You can now back out of the settings menu with Escape, B (Xbox) or Circle (PlayStation)
General settings menu UX improvements
Burst-fire pistol crit nerf: burst pistols now roll critical chance from a separate, lower range, so the three-round burst isn't overpowered (I recently buffed pistols crit chance % to make them a more viable weapon choice… but they made the burst variant so OP)
Fixed a Steam Deck edge case that could lock your aim (ADS) in place after visiting the homebase
