changedHello everyone! Welcome to our first pre-release dev update!
changedFirstly, a brief summary about the game itself to get newcomers up to speed. In The Dragon's Wake is an open-world survival game where you the player are stranded on a mysterious island after the ship you are aboard is attacked by a fire-breathing (you guessed it) dragon!
changedThis game is inspired by many things, its part traditional survival game, part action adventure, and at times completely terrifying (Truly). It can also be beautiful. If you want to go follow a path through the rainforest to see where it leads, do it. Explore that cave you saw earlier? Sounds good. Build a farm by the beach? Sure. This island has depth, and as a small team, we are really proud of how it is shaping up.
addedSecondly, we wanted to share some new images of the game as we work hard to polish the build for our early access release. Each one of our biomes has been majorly overhauled and reworked. Our goal here is to create truly immersive environments that cater to the type of creatures and wildlife you will encounter, not just through the visual representation but in the way you, the player will need to adapt to survive in them.
changedFrom the verticality of the rocky canyons to the dense fog of the crocodile-filled swamp, each biome on this island will force you to adapt and change in order to survive the monsters within. The insect-like Stalkers of the swamp will use the fog to their advantage as they move in on you, Shriekier serpents will stay in the tall grass as they slither upon you, and the dragon... well, it doesn't care what biome you are in - if it finds you, its BBQ time!

From there the island is yours to explore. Before your journey ends, you will discover abandoned research facilities, forgotten temples, have navigated treacherous traps, built shelters, crafted weapons, hunted wildlife, and uncovered an ancient mystery about the island, its purpose, and the role humanity has it. Did we mention that the entire time, a dragon freely roams the island with its own purpose, enemies, and goals? It's also not a fan of people. If you hear those wings above, you should probably get to cover!

What is next for us? There are many features, creatures, temples and location in this game that we are excited to dive into with you all - and majority of them are yet to be revealed.

Right now, our goal is to continue to improve the early access build across the board so that when the day comes for you to get stranded on this monstrosity of an island, you will have a dependable, content appropriate experience. We are currently deep into overhauling the animation systems of all our monsters, dragon, and the player character. This is the next step to realizing the immersive feel we are striving for and will hopefully address some of the constructive criticism we received from the announcement trailer back in April.

This brief update is the first of many to come. If you have questions about the game, please let us know! If we can answer without spoiling any surprises, we absolutely will. If there are specific features you are interested in hearing more about, again, let us know! We are planning some deep dives on various aspects of the game for the near future.

Hope you all have a great day! Keep exploring!
