Introverts
Hello there, Introverts! In today’s Devlog we would like to talk about you… Well, Introverts! We will reveal our ideas and intentions from the beginning of our development phase.
The Introvert is a bit of a blank slate, because they are, well, you! They’re a typical teenager who loves their friends but also appreciates some quiet time to recharge their batteries. Unfortunately for the introvert, they live in a city that loves small talk. A quiet person, the introvert expresses themselves through fashion, decorating their room, and mostly replies in emojis. However, with that said, the introvert isn’t mute, and has several conversation segments in the game.
The introvert being the protagonist felt natural to a platformer, as we kinda had two ways we could’ve gone: a Pokemon-style turn-based battle collector where you collect introverts and force them to talk to each other, or this. This made sense to make first, but hopefully, we’ll get to do the other one in the future!
Your friends are a mix of introverts and extroverts! You can tell based on whether their eyes or their mouths are obscured. Very few characters in the game are ambiverts - a mix of both - and therefore have both eyes and their mouth visible!
We based the friendship group off our own friends and experiences when we were in high school, fed through the blender of the cartoons we grew up with. We tried to avoid the typical “high school stereotypes” you see in many TV shows. So, our gang of friends aren’t allergic to parties but don’t go to a new one every week. They aren’t criminals but can commit the occasional bending of the law. They’re more into video games than alcohol, but they’re teenagers.
We wanted to avoid making them too “adult,” while also avoiding making them too “childlike.”
Don’t Stare’s story is also pretty self-contained. If we expand the story, there’s a chance we’d introduce some new characters, given that they fit with what we wanna do, of course!
Thank you for your time, we hope that you have a lot of fun learning about our inspiration for the game!
See you in the next Devlog!
