DNOWHERE changes
We have some amazing news from development. We’ve just taken a massive step forward – we have finished the prototype of the entire first game map! This map represents the very beginning of the story and the world of DNOWHERE. It is divided into several main areas, and it already looks absolutely incredible. We’ve walked through it multiple times ourselves, just to get lost in its thick, eerie atmosphere.
The story of our protagonists, He and Aya, begins on their home island in a seemingly idyllic way – playing tag in the woods. However, as you might expect in our world, this childhood innocence quickly fractures. The player will find themselves in the middle of a pitch-black night, heading deep into a dark forest... but that's all we're willing to share for now. This opening sequence will also serve as our upcoming playable demo, so you’ll soon be able to experience this shift from safety to terror for yourself.
"I dare say the visuals, lights, and shadows look perfect – in many ways, better than games coming from major studios."
From a Walk in the Woods to Pure Action
A beautiful backdrop doesn't make a game on its own, though. That's why our plan for the next month is clear: to breathe life into the world. We are currently implementing gameplay elements into the map, such as stealth, climbing, jumping, and minor attacks. We are carefully designing every rock, every obstacle, and every path to ensure the journey is dynamic, intuitive, and never repetitive. Players must clearly understand where to go and what to do, all while feeling constant tension.
We are also heavily focusing on the character models appearing in this chapter, their animations, and overall optimization. Working full-time gives us immense creative freedom, but it also brings tough technical hurdles. For instance, we spent over 30 hours tweaking a single character, and we are still not quite finished. But that’s the reality of honest indie development.
