Divine Omen changes
Yes, the allegations are true...Chapter II of Divine Omen is complete and ready to unsettle you!
This marks a MASSIVE milestone for the game's production - it now costs money! Yay! Yay for me, anyway. Let's dive into what exactly that means for the future of the game:
The good news is Chapter I will always be free to play on the game's demo page.
The other good news is I'll continue to update Chapter I as I make improvements to the base game.
The other other good news is I'll finally be posting devlogs here now! This is also bad news depending on how much you want to hear about this game. Hopefully you want to if you're here already, right?
Now let's talk more specifically about Chapter II and Divine Omen as a whole.
There's one key thing to note here: the game is out, but it's still in Early Access. Why? So I can give you guys each chapter as it releases instead of making you wait years and years before you get to experience it! Although the remaining chapters are still in development, the foundation of the game itself is complete and you can expect a dependable playing experience, functioning achievements and in-game collectables, and complete, high quality (well, I like to think so, anyway) artwork. In short, the game is done, it just...isn't done. Glad we're on the same page! With that said, I will be continuing to improve on that existing foundation whenever/wherever possible. That means prettier artwork, music, and so on...or just more of it!
Another plus about being an Early Access game is that I can price it appropriately for its current state instead of pricing it as a finished game, which may raise the price by $5-$10. For $14.99 ($13.49 if you get it this week) you're getting access to Chapter I and II AND you'll receive the remaining chapters in the form of totally free updates. Solid deal if you ask me.
To reiterate: one purchase unlocks EVERYTHING. PERMANENTLY. FOREVER.
My play testers really enjoyed Chapter II…well, as close to enjoyment as you can get from a game about murder and sad stuff, anyway. I think it’s the best yet! Now we’re really diving into the story and getting a better understanding of Avan’s abilities, for better or worse. I like to think of C2 as one big puzzle loaded with tiny hints - what are they telling you? What course of action is best? That’s for you to decide. I mean, do you wanna be the Executioner…? Avan doesn’t seem too keen on it, but the reins are in your hands, aren’t they?
Chapter II, like every chapter, is roughly 2.5 hours in length and features an additional 32,000-word count. The image count has more than doubled, too! You’d think I’d need less…oh, no. Not at all. Like the first one, we have all new collectables, journal entries, and photo gallery images to unlock - not mentioning the vast range of dialogue options and choices…those kinda go without saying. I mean, it’s a choice-based visual novel, right? To see everything Chapter II has to offer, you’ll get a lot more than 2.5 hours out of it. There’s plenty to see in this new chapter, and your choices in Chapter 1 DO make a difference!
As for the future, specifically regarding Chapter III...
I told myself I'd take a mini vacation, but I can't stay away - It's already in development! And I'm a solid 2-3k lines of code in already. Big progress!
it's hard to say what the timeline for Chapter III will be, but I'll definitely be updating often. I do expect Chapter III to take significantly less time than Chapter II did, but again...it's hard to say for sure. I'm one person with another job doing it all in my free time. I do think it could be done by this time next year, though! Maybe sooner if I really lock in.
What I do know for sure about Chapter III is that I believe it'll really impress you guys. It's pretty ambitious so far and, without saying too much, I think you guys will be pretty pleased by a few of the story beats in this one. It'll also be the largest chapter yet and with it you'll get 10 more Steam Achievements to unlock! All that at no extra cost if you buy it now..? C'mon...you know you wanna...
