• Is this a remake or a remaster?

Defender of the Crown: The Legend Returns is a brand-new iteration of the legendary franchise. It preserves the spirit, world, and fantasy of the original while also featuring new gameplay systems, modern visuals, and expanded content.

Defender of the Crown: The Legend Returns features three games in one package. Retro Mode preserves the original 1986 experience. Classic Mode modernizes the Amiga classic with updated visuals, controls, and quality-of-life improvements. Kingdom Mode introduces an all-new roguelite deck-builder experience.

• What kind of game is it?

Defender of the Crown: The Legend Returns combines strategy, adventure, and dice-driven tactical gameplay. You’ll conquer territories, manage your campaign, flesh out your tactics, and take part in a variety of medieval events and minigames.

• What is Kingdom Mode?

Kingdom Mode is a brand-new roguelite deck-builder featuring dice-based tactical combat. Each run offers different events, rewards, and strategic decisions as you fight to unite England.

• Is there a story campaign?

Yes. The game features the original narrative-driven story if you choose to play Retro Mode (with a few quality-of-life improvements), while Classic Mode offers the same experience but with enhanced graphics, UI, controls, and music.

• Will the original soundtrack be used?

Yes, the original music is featured in the game; Retro Mode preserves the original 1986 experience.

• How long does a playthrough take?

Playtime depends on the mode and your playstyle. Kingdom Mode is designed for replayability, while Retro and Classic Modes offer a more structured adventure.

• Is the game procedurally generated?

Kingdom Mode features randomized events, encounters, rewards, and points of interest, making every run different while keeping the overall map structure familiar.

• Will the game receive updates after launching?

We plan to continue supporting the game after its release with bug fixes, performance improvements, and other technical updates to ensure the best possible experience.

• Will there be Steam Deck support?

Yes, the game will support Steam Deck at launch. However, we can’t guarantee that it will receive the official “Steam Deck Verified” status by release, as the verification process and timing are determined by Steam.
