If you've been here for a while, you'll remember our DEATH STRANDING Porter Spotlight Series from 2023, which was created to celebrate members of our community who consistently go the extra mile with their creativity and passion for all things DEATH STRANDING.

We're excited to bring it back, this time with a focus on the cosplayers we've recently met. Over the coming months, we'll shine a spotlight on dedicated super-fans whose talent, creativity, and contributions have made a lasting impact on the DEATH STRANDING community. (And on us!)

Tell us a bit about yourself!

Hi, I’m Alice, and I’m a new cosmaker. I’m inspired in many areas of my life by video game design and recently found cosplay as a great creative outlet and a way to pay tribute to the art I love. Hideo Kojima games have been a core part of my life for as long as I can remember, as my parents were also fans.

Since playing DEATH STRANDING in 2019 and falling in love with the game, I’ve been invested in Kojima Productions projects and thoroughly enjoyed DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH upon release. During a difficult period of my life, I felt deeply connected to the story and art of DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the friends and opportunities I’ve made through the game. With Yoji Shinkawa’s designs as a point of inspiration, I hope to continue improving my cosplay as a craft.

Tell us about your cosplay! Who are you cosplaying as and why?

I’m cosplaying Rainy from DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH. Her design was so beautiful and her story so meaningful that I couldn’t believe how underrepresented she was amongst fans and just had to make her. I loved her story’s themes of hope and how they were represented in details such as the rainbows in her design and the lyrics of B. J. Thomas’ “Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head”.

What game advice would you give to DEATH STRANDING newcomers?

Just play it! You’ll regret putting it off!

What does the DEATH STRANDING community mean to you?

I couldn’t be more grateful to be in the good company of such kind and passionate people. Their support helped me through a difficult period of my life, and their talent and passion have become a huge motivator. It’s rare to meet so many people with a true love for art and music in the gaming space, and even more so people who use it as a means to create great art themselves. My friends truly mean the world to me, and I feel lucky to have found such an amazing community.

How did you first get into cosplay?

I casually attended conventions with friends over 2024-2025, but became invested in cosplay as a hobby in November 2025 after cosplaying Olga Gurlukovich and Raging Raven from Metal Gear Solid at MCM Birmingham.

What’s your process from concept to finished costume?

I picked a basic coat pattern and used it as a guide to self-pattern a new one. Lou (@quaccs) was a huge help by grabbing textures and model references for me. Due to a lack of time from scheduling and fabric shipping delays, I couldn’t finish Rainy, but I hope to completely remake her in the future, as she’s a beautiful character and it was my first time sewing anything like this. I also struggled with heat and allergies over MCM May, so it’s most definitely a cosplay I’m wanting to redo.

How long does a typical cosplay take you to complete?

I’ve only created a handful, but total sewing time is usually under a week. Excluding pattern drafting and collecting materials, Rainy’s total construction was done in 2–3 days.

What advice would you give beginner cosplayers?

Don’t rush into buying trendy costumes and feeling you have to look a certain way to fit in. There are so many areas of cosplay to explore, and your personal comfort and enjoyment of the hobby should always come first.
