Dead Weight changes
Ahoy, pirate!
It has been one week since the release of Dead Weight, and we would like to share what we have been working on during this time. Our main priority right now is collecting feedback and responding to critical issues. We read reviews, discussions, comments, and feedback form submissions in different languages. All of this is gradually becoming a list of tasks for our first post-release patch. The good news is that the release build has been relatively stable. We did not have to rush into fixing things and urgently upload a new version during the first few hours. That is why we decided not to hurry with hotfixes: there is always a risk that quickly fixing one problem could accidentally break something else. Instead, we are putting together a prioritized set of changes, working through them, and then thoroughly testing the entire build. We are currently aiming to release the first patch on July 30–31, approximately two weeks after release. The date may shift slightly if we discover a critical issue during final testing. It is better to spend an extra day than to rush.
The most serious issues reported to us:
Game crashes
Loss of save data or progress
System freezes
These are very serious problems, and we are by no means ignoring them. The difficulty is that they have only occurred in isolated cases so far and are very difficult to reproduce. During this time, we have been collecting recurring scenarios, system specifications, and the circumstances surrounding these issues to understand their causes.
Stats
At the time of writing, we have:
390 reviews, around 85% of which are positive
Around 90 new threads in the Steam Discussions since release
More than 400 posts in the discussions
172 submissions through the in-game feedback forms
Thank you to everyone who writes reviews, describes the issues they encounter in detail, and helps us investigate difficult cases! Yes, we really do read all of it. We cannot respond to every message individually, but we group together recurring problems and suggestions, compare the experiences of different players, and take them into account when preparing the patch. I would also like to remind you that we have our own Discord server. Come and join us! Join the Dead Weight Discord server
Issues we are working on
Below are the issues we plan to fix in the upcoming patch. This list may still be expanded before final testing begins. (!) — higher-priority tasks.
Combat and abilities
(!) Aluza’s self-damage is affected by damage modifiers, causing the final damage to differ from the expected value.
(!) Cancelling movement triggers traps.
(!) The Shot ability cannot be used across an empty space of two or more tiles.
(!) Area-of-effect healing and cleansing does not work correctly in the area around the character using them.
Restarting a pirate battle causes enemies to regain extra health.
Interface and tooltips
(!) On first launch, the game may select an unsuitable localization. For users whose system language is Korean or Japanese, the game should launch in English because these translations are still works in progress.
Multiple building tooltips can appear simultaneously in the city.
Unit tooltips appear on top of open windows.
Duplicate icons accumulate in the allies panel at the bottom of the screen.
The distinction between destructible and indestructible objects on a level is not clear enough.
The cost of services in the Lighthouse does not update correctly.
Map, events, and progression
(!) When the player runs out of fuel, drifting returns them to the city if all regular combat islands have been cleared, even though the boss island is still available.
Loading, FPS, and stability
Game crashes and loss of save data (isolated cases).
System freezes that can be resolved by restarting the graphics driver with Ctrl + Shift + Win + B.
