Darklight Breach fights are played in two-dimensional spaces with cover elements. Advantage is gained by taking up either rear or flanking positions against the opponent.
Previously it was fairly easy to see where you should position your squad. Once in position, you would wait for enemies to die.
In order to keep the fights spatially interesting we made three changes:
Cover has been made destructible
AI now periodically repositions to try and gain their own advantage
Officers now have shields that can absorb some damage and regenerate when out of combat
Together, this challenges the player to
Reposition multiple times during a fight
Learn enemy AI positioning patterns to predict or prevent their ability to gain advantage against you
