Damascus Completely Free to Play!

Damascus Completely Free to Play! ... However we won't be updating the game moving forward. The reason for this is that we are working on the spiritual successor to Damascus, a sequel meant to be so much more.

changedDamascus Completely Free to Play!So first things first, from this day onwards, Damascus will be completely free to play, all players will be credited with permanently renewing membership and will be treated as members. Thank you all so much for all your support all this time! We will continue to maintain the server for anyone who wants to play. From now on you can think of this as our "Damascus Classic" server. This announcement also comes with a server update, which will hopefully end the daily/weekly server restarts and bring some stability to the world, and if there are any issues we will be there to fix them and restart the server as needed.
addedDamascus Completely Free to Play! Finally that brings me to what we have been working on and what our plans for the future are. We are busy creating what is the spiritual successor to Damascus and a game we are calling Journey To Jericho. This is a 2.5D pixel art MMO RPG with much of the game design that was loved from the original with many new additions and quality of life features such as animations and a better client side experience. We will also be greatly overhauling questing and adding tons of new systems and a new continent. This also includes a full server re-write in Rust to ensure memory safety.

So today Wyn and I have a special and strange little announcement. When we first started developing Damascus it was always our vision to create a sprawling deep pixel art, tick based MMO RPG experience. However in launching the game and spending over a year attempting to fix and update it we learned that we lacked the skills and were not yet ready to fully realise our vision. In our hearts we knew this meant we would need to do a full rebuild of the game, and after being extremely burned out such an idea seemed impossible. We also knew that we needed to level up our coding and discipline skills to 99, so that we would be ready to give you all what you, and what Damascus the game, as an idea and project, deserves.
