Crimson Banner: War of Liberation changes
Four new mountain scenarios in western Zhejiang, 1945. Su Yu's outnumbered New Fourth Army faces massed assaults by KMT diehard forces. Defeat them in detail among the peaks — or be crushed. Steam post image
Endless Peaks, an Entirely New Battlefield
Say goodbye to the flat, waterway-laced plains of Central Jiangsu and push into the rugged mountains of western Zhejiang. Here, dense forests cloak towering ridgelines and every hex of movement must be carefully weighed. The supply hardships imposed by mountain terrain will force you to rethink the tempo of operations entirely — the placement of supply hubs, the allocation of carried rations, and control of river crossings will all make or break your campaign. Four Complete Scenarios, Escalating Step by Step
First Anti-Insurgency Battle of Tianmu Mountain — Ambushed by diehard forces as you push east, you must stabilize the line, then wheel back to relieve your comrades and seize the gateway to Xiaofeng.
Second Anti-Insurgency Battle of Tianmu Mountain — Facing a pincer offensive of 12 regiments advancing in 4 columns, concentrate your forces to crush one prong at a time.
The Battle of Xindeng — Contest the vital Fuchun River crossing. Liberate the town of Xindeng, then lure the enemy deep with a deliberate withdrawal.
Decisive Battle of Xiaofeng — 20,000 against 75,000. Delay the eastern prong and smash the western one, then wheel east to finish the job. Avenge the martyrs of the New Fourth Army Incident.
A Radically Different Tactical Experience
The Central Jiangsu Campaign taught you how to exploit river networks for rapid maneuvering across open plains. Tianmu Mountain will test an entirely different skill set — how to move stealthily through broken terrain, how to sustain combat power when supply lines are stretched to breaking point, and how to create local superiority from overall inferiority. Su Yu's masterful "defeat in detail" doctrine is on full display here. Furthermore, this campaign features a finer unit/time/map scale than Central Jiangsu — you will directly command battalion-level counters, though thanks to the proportional scaling of the entire map, the experience will feel similar to commanding regiment-level counters in Central Jiangsu. Battlefield Narrative Rooted in History
Every scenario includes historical telegrams, archival photographs, and genuine wartime correspondence between Su Yu, Chairman Mao, Gu Zhutong, and others. Immerse yourself in the command decisions while experiencing the sweeping history of the New Fourth Army's southern expedition to establish a new base area.
We still have more historical content planned for the game — stay tuned for future minor updates that will sprinkle in historical "easter eggs" for players to discover.
