It has been two weeks since the release, and we have read every single piece of feedback and review you have sent us.
First, the bottom line: We stand tall, take our lumps, and accept it all with an open mind.
The most frequently mentioned issues across all reviews and feedback basically boil down to these:
The main story is vague, the logic is messy, plot threads are left dangling, and the runtime is too short;
The dialogue is padded with fluff, low on substance, dumps lore, and some parts feel uncomfortable;
The title says "Journey," but there's hardly any journey to speak of;
The Meta elements feel pointless.
We own up to all of the above.
Still, we'd like to offer a little context (not an excuse!):
This work is a post-game epilogue in nature, so it's relatively short by design. Many parts are meant to echo certain settings from the main. The main game will come later as a full visual novel, and we'll properly expand the world and characters then.
As for the writing, we tried to preserve the original novel's flavor as much as possible, and some segments do come from real experiences... but honestly, if it doesn't read well in the game, then it's just not good. We'll be more careful about tone and handling going forward.
The "Journey" content doesn't match the title—we're already on it, we swear! We're currently working on a dedicated DLC, entirely from Cosdarica's perspective, to fill in what she saw and experienced along the way.
The Meta bookends that feel out of place—these actually connect to another work, which is still being translated. We completely understand why they feel abrupt.
About the music—thank you for loving it! Besides the Soundtrack, we're also trying to get the music up on NetEase Cloud Music and SoundCloud.
Now, a few words from the heart:
This game is the first title our team has ever put on Steam, so we chose visual novels as the medium and made it completely free (including future DLC and the Soundtrack). Our goal was to get familiar with the engine, go through the release process, and hear your genuine voices. So yes, it's rough around the edges in many ways.
Also, our team is really small, and none of us are full-time game developers. Therefore, whether it's the DLC, the main game, or the Meta-related sequel, the production cycle may stretch quite long. We truly want to apologize for that in advance.
We also want to be upfront with you: We will not abandon this series, we will not run away, and we will not go silent. The original novel has already been published, and the overarching framework and ending are already set—we know where we're heading. Going forward, whether in game form or other media, we'll take it slow and make it right.
So—
If after finishing the game you find something off, frustrating, or worth cursing at, feel free to roast us in the reviews or discussion boards—the more specific, the better (including right here). You're also welcome to join our QQ group (ID: 1062212645), or leave comments on Bilibili (GenGame), or Instagram (nowamension_games). We'll post progress updates from time to time—whether you want to urge us to hurry up, chat, or dive into the worldbuilding, it's all good.
Finally, thank you to everyone who took the time to play and to write a review. Just clicking in and giving it a try already makes us more than happy.
