addedOver the last month I’ve been listening to the players and one thing that was brought up was if they can host their own servers. I originally wanted to just have dedicated servers run by me, but the reality is that I can’t host servers all over the world. Well, I can. But it would break my bank account. So, with that I decided to go ahead and add the functionality for players host their own sessions.
changedThis means you can make a game and you`ll be the host, and your friends can connect directly to your game. This is great for regions where I don’t have dedicated servers active. The servers you can host aren’t dedicated servers, though. So, if the host closes the game or leaves, the session is destroyed, and all players are sent back to the main menu. Maybe in the future I’ll release the dedicated server tools as well.
changedThis took me a long time to get working. Testing locally for me is very difficult as I only have 1 working computer. Also the game logic was never really intended to cater for players that are both the server and a client at the same time. I had to go back and rework a lot of the server / client logic. Finally, it`s all working now.
changedWhen you host a session, you can choose the game mode (free for all or king of the hill, more soon), whether map rotation is on / off, the map you want to play on, the rounds per map, the max players and also what weapons you want to spawn in the game! So now you can have a melee weapon only bust up, or maybe just a nade spam match.
addedThis whole feature release is the first part of this update. Next I`ll add an option to make sessions private, friend invites, and also add more game options like time limits, low gravity etc.
addedSince the game entered early access, I`ve switched focus from the things I originally wanted to add, to the things my actual players want me to add. I`m grateful to everyone that has given me feedback and ideas so far.
