Salutations, Colonisers!
Are you enjoying the latest version of the game available through the public demo? It has changed significantly since the last release. The previous version was in a good state, but it showed some issues during long-running playthroughs. You can see this in a 7-day run by one of our team members:
Simply put, being offline, especially when playing with certain types of players, can result in your colony being destroyed quickly. Being online is a huge advantage, and we don’t want the game to turn into a “wait until someone logs off and then attack” experience.
We’ll talk more about how we plan to address this, but for now, we want to reduce the anxiety of being offline. That’s why we’re introducing a new feature: garrisoning (name still work in progress).
Garrisoning allows units to occupy defensive buildings, increasing their effectiveness in defense and adding more strategic options.
Simply select a unit and you’ll see the garrison action. Use it on a Capitol, Homestead, Tower, or Stronghold and watch the unit enter the building:
You can click on a building to see how many units are currently garrisoned, as well as its maximum capacity, in the UI.
There are two key benefits to this feature:
Defensive buildings fire an additional projectile for each unit garrisoned inside.
Garrisoned units begin to heal (healing speed can be improved through technologies).
There are also some limitations:
Not all units can garrison. Currently, siege weapons cannot, but we’ll evaluate this for future units.
Different buildings have different capacities:
Capitol / Homestead: 10 units
Tower: 3 units
Stronghold: 15 units
If a building with garrisoned units is destroyed, the units survive and have another chance to fight back.
We plan to improve this feature further with better visuals and indicators, but we’re happy with its current state. It’s a great way to protect your units and your colony while you’re offline.
How does it sound to you? Try it out in the public demo and let us know what you think.
And don’t forget to tell your friends about the game. Coloniser shines most when many players are active at the same time. Show them this Demo trailer:
and invite them to join our Discord for direct communication with us, the developers.
