changedMessage From the DeveloperI started this game in my sophomore year of university, and finished it right at the end of my senior year. It began as a passion project, created out of love for an old game I was obsessed with as a kid: a Minecraft mini-game called Smash Heroes on the Hypixel server . (If you're one of the five people who played that game, I hope you'll see a lot of resemblence.)
changedMessage From the DeveloperI don't actually know if that game is still around, but it was so unique, and I loved it so much, that I just wanted some way to immortalize it: a way to capture that experience and store it away for safekeeping, on a platform that doesn't rely on online servers, popularity, or monetization to stay online. I'm sure that's something a lot of people have felt about games they've loved—especially ones from their childhood. And, honestly, I'm not even sure Cloud Crashers lives up to its inspiration, but I did my best!

Message From the Developer

Howdy! It's a little surreal finally writing this, after the tens of thousands of hours I've poured into this game over the last 2.5 years (do not try to make an online multiplayer first-person shooter as a solo developer — big mistake). I just wanted to share some things for anyone who happens to come across it.

I started this game in my sophomore year of university, and finished it right at the end of my senior year. It began as a passion project, created out of love for an old game I was obsessed with as a kid: a Minecraft mini-game called Smash Heroes on the Hypixel server. (If you're one of the five people who played that game, I hope you'll see a lot of resemblence.)

I don't actually know if that game is still around, but it was so unique, and I loved it so much, that I just wanted some way to immortalize it: a way to capture that experience and store it away for safekeeping, on a platform that doesn't rely on online servers, popularity, or monetization to stay online. I'm sure that's something a lot of people have felt about games they've loved—especially ones from their childhood. And, honestly, I'm not even sure Cloud Crashers lives up to its inspiration, but I did my best!

Regardless, that's why this game—and everything in it—is free. That's why I really don't care if anyone plays this game (I'd be a little surprised if anyone was even reading this). And that's why I'm planning on stepping away from this project after release. This was something created purely out of love and fond memories, and, frankly, done for myself more than anyone else. By finishing this game and putting it out there, I've done all I wanted to do, and I'm happy to move on to new things.

So, if you're playing Cloud Crashers, thank you! I hope you enjoy it. Maybe if it finds a small audience, I'll come back and add some new characters or maps or modes in the future. But for now, I'm just grateful for the experience of creating this game, for how much I've learned and grown throughout it, and for the opportunities I've found along the way (including my current career). I know it's far from perfect, but I'll look back at this game with a lot of love and gratitude. I'm excited to move on to bigger and better adventures, and I'm content having left something behind that, I like to think, would make my younger self proud.
