Good Day, Traveler!
Here it is: The Great North Part 1 Update V.0.8.7 and it's packed with content, visual improvements, enhancements, optimization and bug fixes. But that's not all! One of the reasons for delaying the update was that I was making a new version of the demo, which hasn't been public in a long time, because it was so out of date. Mechanics were old, graphics were much worse and performance wasn't good either. But now that has changed and I have already released the new demo. If you are interested in the game, but have your doubts, now is your change to try it out. But beware, the demo version does not utilize all the mechanics, such as 'speech', 'stealing' or 'crafting'. Instead it is focused to showcase the basic gameplay mechanics, exploration and dungeon crawling. The demo starts with a small fetch quest, which encourages to explore the Great Forest, which is there with all its secrets, and eventually gain entrance to one of the game's side dungeons. Save games from the demo version doesn't transfer to the main game, because the demo is its own separate thing. The demo version has the same enhancements and improvements that the Early Access version now has.
So, what the update brings? A quite lot! First, of course, the content: Autumn Valley is finally released and it is now a proper part of the main story, but there is also the Candle Spruce Pass, which has its own secrets. Autumn Valley has one main story dungeon, the Castle of Three Gems, but there are also three side dungeons scattered around. Before entering the dungeons, you will visit the Leaf Pond village and there you can visit the Inn, Shop of Nine Sisters and Trade House to access shops, Temple Services and the House of Adventurers. The shops in Leaf Pond have new equipment, skills and spells in their inventories. A new tool comes in the form of sledgehammer, which can be used to break down certain walls, and collapse... Well, you will see... And that reminds me that there are also multiple new enemies.
And then there are the enhancements: Improved controller support, enhanced graphics and new keyboard shortcuts. Tool/Quickbar items 1-8 can now be activated with controller's right stick and 'select' button activates 'pass time'. New keyboard shortcuts will offer faster access to certain menus, such as 'Character', 'Skills', 'Items' and more. Many of the older dungeons have now much better textures, which improves their atmosphere quite a lot and makes 'new game' feel fresher, but there are also some small enhancements made to Twin Falls' and the Great Forest's textures.
Before getting to the patch notes, I want to remind that Chronicles of Vaeltaja is 40% off on Steam Spring Sale in celebration of the new update, the demo and the nice facts that the game has now reached over 4000 wishlists and the sales have been increasing in the past few months! Also, the old version of the demo had over 16 000 individual downloads, so it will be interesting to see what happens with the new version.
