Whether you're playing with the classic Staunton set or battling with Egyptian pyramids and Japanese pagodas, you can now experience your favorite pieces in full 3D. Just flip the toggle in Settings and see the difference.

Every chess piece set in the game now has a full 3D variant. Toggle between Classic 2D (SVG) and 3D (PNG) from Settings, the Collection screen, or during onboarding.

  • 12 themed sets in 3D: Staunton, Marble, Medieval, Steampunk, Crystal & Ice, Neon Cyberpunk, Ancient Egyptian, Japanese Samurai, Dragon Fantasy, Golden Royal, Platinum Crown, and Diamond Prestige

  • 33 country sets in 3D: Every country skin now has a unique 3D version featuring national landmarks, animals, and symbols

  • Cherry Blossom bonus set also available in 3D

New: AI Opponent 2D/3D Variety

When playing against AI opponents, their pieces now randomly appear in either 2D or 3D style (50/50 chance per game). This adds visual variety to each match. Your own pieces always follow your Settings preference.

New: Override Opponent Pieces

New toggle in Settings to force AI opponents to use your equipped piece set instead of their own. Useful if you prefer visual clarity over variety during matches.

New: Redesigned Premium Set

The Diamond Prestige (Premium) set has been completely redesigned with a polished platinum and black onyx aesthetic — clearly distinct from the Golden Royal set.

Improved: Onboarding Piece Style Picker

The 2D vs 3D choice screen for new players now shows a wider board preview with the starting position, making the difference between styles much more visible.

Bug Fixes & Improvements

  • FixedOnboarding skipped when accessing Settings before creating a profile — On the profile selection screen, opening Settings and changing any option could corrupt the save state, causing the new player welcome flow to be skipped entirely.
  • Fixed3D piece rendering artifacts — Removed CSS shadow effects that were causing visual artifacts on 3D pieces and selection highlights appearing behind pieces.

  • Fixed: Country set Kings looking like Rooks — Country Kings that were shaped like buildings have been regenerated as proper chess King shapes with country-themed crowns.

  • Various AI tuning and difficulty adjustments -> Legend should be extremly hard to beat now!

  • General stability improvements and minor bug fixes
