Caverns And Dryads changes
Hi adventurers! ːsteamhappyː
Here's update 2.1, codename "Malevolent Creatures"! This brings two important things.
NEW QUEST TYPE IN THE PALACE OF SUBTERRANEA
About the new quests:
What are they? after completing the "save the river" mission (the first major one) that the Purple King hired you for, you will be able to visit Urvhal V the Purple King of Subterranea, and his majesty will ask you to battle deadly necrias (kind of witches). If you do these missions, you get a lot of gold.
Necrias' name, stats, powers and everything is created by my programming each time, to ensure it's balanced and different each time.
To get these quests, go to Subterranea and visit the Amethyst Throne. You must have finished the quest for saving the river first, that is the first one of the game. Beware: you will be hired only if you have no job quests active or if you quit them before visiting the King.
The game sets the necrias' strength proportional to yours. This ensures that you will always face a challenge that is hard but not impossible. Fights with the necrias will require good strategy!
With this, you will have always challenging and fun quests of this type to do! ːsteamhappyː I will soon add more quests like this, that scale to your skills.
I LISTENED: CHANGES TO COMBAT TO MAKE IT MORE STRATEGIC AND TEAM CENTERED
And the change to spell casting in combat is this:
Some players complained that the wizard could cast spells as long as you had potions and mana, so you could cast unlimited spells. Many times Tamzyn had nothing to do.
So I have set a limit to spell casting per turn. It's 1 at the beginning, 2 when mastery reaches 8 to 14, and 3 from 15 to 18 in mastery.
Icon of magic book changes color depending on how many casts you have. When you cast all of them, you have to defend or attack with Tamzyn, and the monster's turn begins.
As a consequence, now you have to think what spell you will use better, and the monsters have an opportunity to counterattack. Tamzyn's role is more relevant.
The new combat also fixes a bug in which defending resulted sometimes in an attack.
Now in each turn, you should have more strategy, which makes the game more engaging:
Cast your 1 to 3 spells depending on your mastery stat.
Choose to defend or attack. If you defend, you will dodge better. You won't attack now but you'll get a bonus for the next turn's attack. If you attack, Tamzyn tries to hit the monster.
Then the monster attacks.
So you now have to use both Sioul and Tamzyn together as a team, always. This fits the narrative and immersion much more. It's also a motivation to raise Sioul's mastery!
FUTURE UPDATES
I can tell you I'm quite happy with the necrias' quests mechanism, so I am going to add some other kind of quests but this time with different monsters to battle, that will also be generated by my logic. The game will always have challenges according to your level!
THANK YOU
Hope you enjoy these features! Thanks as always for playing Caverns and Dryads! ːsteamhappyː If you want to suggest something, a new feature or any idea, say it! I always listen. Also: If you love the game, a review helps a lot. And I read them and take suggestions too.

CHANGELOG
---------------
Version 2.1, May 8, 2026 - Malevolent creatures
-----------------------------------------------
MOST IMPORTANT:
Go to Subterranea and visit the Purple King. If you already did his mission to save the river, and you are not in a job quest, the King will hire you for a new kind of mission: defeat a powerful necria! Challenging quest and very well paid!
The number of spells cast per turn depends now on Sioul's mastery. With less than 7 it's 1, 2 casts from 8 to 14, and with 15 or more it's three. This change makes combat more fun and strategic.
OTHER:
Fixed some typos.
Fixed bug on defend that triggered an attack sometimes.
Added Necria to the Bestiary DLC for those who own it.
INTERNAL:
Added code to check conditionals in narrative chapters so I can branch what happens depending on things you lived, places you were, or achievements you got.
