What changed

1 fix4 additions1 change0 removals
  • Gameplay
  • UI and audio
changedWe will continue to fix bugs and tweak minor things that don't feel quite right of course, but in terms of experience, this will be the only major update that affects the game overall. So you're clear to play Catlandia in its best form right now.
addedTutorial BattleWe definitely heard that many people wanted a clearer introduction to the combat system. There are hints that show up in combat, there's a note, and there's a reference panel you can access. But now we've added a tutorial battle!
addedDifficultyThat play style doesn't suit everyone, though. So we've added a new option for Adaptive Difficulty, which will allow the player to fight fewer battles while still getting through the story.
addedOptions MenuTo handle many of these new features, we'd added an options menu. Open it up to hide the hints if you don't want to see them, hide the combat hints, and change the difficulty.
addedOptions MenuWe've also added a volume control!
fixedAdditional bug fixesThis update also fixes a collection of minor text errors, a bug that would prevent music playing in certain situations, and a bug that would not correctly track save times and dates.

Catlandia v1.05 is here! We expect this to be our first and last major update to the underlying mechanics of the game. We've listened to player feedback and developed a number of features that we think will bring you a more satisfying experience.

That doesn't mean we won't have a super cool announcement coming soon!

Tutorial Battle

We definitely heard that many people wanted a clearer introduction to the combat system. There are hints that show up in combat, there's a note, and there's a reference panel you can access. But now we've added a tutorial battle!

This is accessible at the start of the game (so existing save files will not encounter it). And it takes place right in Fort Pawprint. The tutorial explains the basics of the combat system.

Minimap

Some of the areas of Catlandia are fairly large, and navigation could get difficult. To solve that, we're introducing a minimap. It will display the player's position, the location of NPCs, and objective markers for active quests.

With this addition, getting around Catlandia and keeping track of where you need to be going will be much easier.

Quest Reminders and Game Hints

Going into the quest menu can be a drag. So we've also included a feature that will pop up a quest reminder every so often. Along with them, you also get game hints to better explain what you can do and how to do it.

Difficulty

We balanced Catlandia like a classic RPG with enemies increasing in level by area to account for a player's progress.

That play style doesn't suit everyone, though. So we've added a new option for Adaptive Difficulty, which will allow the player to fight fewer battles while still getting through the story.

Options Menu

To handle many of these new features, we'd added an options menu. Open it up to hide the hints if you don't want to see them, hide the combat hints, and change the difficulty.

We've also added a volume control!

Additional bug fixes

This update also fixes a collection of minor text errors, a bug that would prevent music playing in certain situations, and a bug that would not correctly track save times and dates.
