addedNew Card Render SystemA major change is the complete rework of the card rendering system. The previous method, while functional, came with issues of card clarity and significant performance problems. The new system improves on both issues while also looking nicer in general.
addedCard EditionsInspired by Balatro's card editions, which add some extra abilities to a card, I decided to also adapt that feature into Cardinal Sequence. For now, there is a small chance to find a card with the Polychrome or Stealth modifier. There will be more editions to discover in the game's full version.
addedCard Discovery and LibraryCards are now undiscovered until acquired. With this, you can now browse all your card discoveries in the Library accessible from the main menu. There are over 50 cards to discover in the Demo, which will increase significantly in the full game.

Here are some highlights of the Beta update:

New Card Render System

A major change is the complete rework of the card rendering system. The previous method, while functional, came with issues of card clarity and significant performance problems. The new system improves on both issues while also looking nicer in general.

Card Editions

Inspired by Balatro's card editions, which add some extra abilities to a card, I decided to also adapt that feature into Cardinal Sequence. For now, there is a small chance to find a card with the Polychrome or Stealth modifier. There will be more editions to discover in the game's full version.

Card Discovery and Library

Cards are now undiscovered until acquired. With this, you can now browse all your card discoveries in the Library accessible from the main menu. There are over 50 cards to discover in the Demo, which will increase significantly in the full game.

New Music and Sounds

The game's music went up to 6 unique tracks, totaling over 35 minutes of spacey music. They switch dynamically, depending on the current phase of the game you are in. Some actions and effects also received new sounds.

In-Game Tutorial

The demo now also comes with a basic in-game tutorial, introducing you to the core mechanics of the game. This tutorial will be expanded in the future.

Many more Fixes and Improvements

There are many more, smaller fixes, improvements and visual updates. Download the Demo to check all of it out for free and don't forget to wishlist the full game too.

In Development

The game is still in active development. This means the Demo contains some unfinished or placeholder assets and probably a bunch of bugs. Please be patient while I continue to extend and improve the game for the upcoming (TBA) release.
